E TA left this review about The Chequers Inn

A traditional village pub just off the main road, on the main junction in the centre of a rural hamlet.  The building, one of the oldest in the village,  was originally a farm building but has been modernised and developed to form a 2-story house with an eaved roof.  Some of the downstairs rooms have been formed from smaller areas, the exposed beams now supported by timber columns.  The floors are wood, while the décor is mainly modern painted plaster.  The furniture is functional, mainly wooden.  There is a pleasant gated garden at the back and side, with a well-kept lawn and tables and benches on hard standing.  Apart from the main bar there is a separate dining room and a smaller side room.  They are quite rightly very proud of their food which is at the top end of the pub grub genre, including a Sunday carvery, and have no pretensions towards being a gastro.  There is a homely feel enhanced by the very friendly the landlord who goes out of his way to make you feel welcome.  Three ales on – Timothy Taylor’s Boltmaker, GK IPA and Adnams Southwold, all in very good condition.  I’d be very happy to stop here again in future.
