A pleasant if unassuming little pub with an attractive tiled frontage and more unusually a side wall timber clad. The extensive frontage facing the bus station has a number of tables and in the centre is a large stone sculpture, the purpose of which escaped me. A long, narrow single room inside, decorative, not functional, timber ceiling beams, wood effect flooring, mostly traditional pub seating with small stools at Britannia tables, although there were a couple of sofas arranged in a L shape at the far end. The pub has a local feel despite its location on the edge of the City, and the welcome and service were first rate. The pub is apparently under new management and is now open 7 days instead of the usual local weekend closing. Four handpumps, three in use, Youngs Bitter, Pride and Marstons Royal Ryder (£3.00). A TV on the far end wall was showing snooker, muted, while an Oasis CD played, there is also a dartboard and a case of darts related trophies and shields. Decor mainly consists of humorous beer related slogans and cartoons.

I’ve always liked this place, it’s an honest boozer where the beer is usually good. The selection wasn’t particularly inspiring on my last visit but the Flankers Tackle was in good nick.

Lovely little bare-boarded boozer, tucked neatly away behind the bus garage. Good beer, nice pleasant, English speaking staff, beer can be a little hit and miss.

Made a visit to this place on the strength of reviews elsewhere but have to admit I was distinctly underwhelmed by the place. Yes, there is a decent - if unadventurous - ale selection (Youngs Ordinary, Adnams Broadside, GK IPA, London Pride); the quality of my beer was middling. The inside of the place is very basic indeed, it felt quite cramped, dingy and spartan, bare floors and painted walls - 'basic' I guess. The clientèle were almost entirely suits propping up the bar talking business and taking a late liquid lunch. The overpowering smell of Dettol was quite off-putting but it’s better than stale beer and wee I suppose. The bars on the front window made me feel like I was having a pint in a prison cell. Hmmm.

I really wouldn't have wanted to stay for another - perhaps it's a bit better during the summer when you can stand outside? That’ll have to wait.
