Komakino . left this review about Dog & Truck

An isolated, one-roomed backstreet boozer which has lost some its charm in clinging on into the 21st century. Well-described by Tris below, this is a long, narrow room served by an entrance-facing, long, narrow bar; each end of the room is bookended by large TVs showing sport silently. The pub's website espouses its craft beer associations and there are three banks of founts, with mainly national lagers, ciders and a couple of crafty concessions. A pint of Big Hug Do Not Disturb NEIPA was decent enough as this much-maligned beer style (and dispense) goes, but £6.65 for the privilege lessens the enjoyment somewhat. Two handpumps spotted, partially-obscured by a mini-chalkboard offering 'Cazcabel: 6 for £18', albeit only Doom Bar available. A cursory E1 tick if anything

This place dates from the mid-19th century, but was rebuilt in 1935 and is very much a backstreet venue, not to be found unless looking for it.
I suspect that the interior has been massively trendified since the first two reviews. For one thing, the Watney Combe Reid roundel which once straddled the sign bracket has now been mounted to a wall in the beer garden, which also has a conservatory. Otherwise, there’s much bare brick and really nothing of the original interior remaining. Paint where applied is grey and cream, with a modern floor, furniture is mixed and conventional, there are modern light fixtures and the football was being shown on multiple TVs with the sound off, so as not to interfere with the staggeringly simplistic quiz. Customers were mixed, but I suspect mainly younger incomers. A noted irritant was that despite the pub being not that busy, there were loads of tables cluttered with dirty plates and empty glasses piled up.
Ale amounted to Doom and Ghost Ship (off), so it was a half of Peroni at £2.90, served by a friendly barmaid.
This place is ok I suppose, but there’s better to be had in the area, better ale would get the score of this place up.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Dog & Truck

Refurbished pub in an area of former warehouses between the edge of the City and the main Tower Hamlets housing estates. The rectangular bar is quite an attractive mix of traditional and modern elements, and has a couple of screens to break things up a bit. Also has further seating in a conservatory to one side (with a compact patio beyond) and a partly covered yard on the other. Pieminister menu. Clientele mostly young professionals, by the look and sound of things. Truman's Runner and the seasonal Greene King Grubber golden ale (£4.35) from two of four handpumps.

The Dog and truck is a proper old school pub that is up a back street but close to the city.
Once inside there is a small oblong shaped room which runs the width of the pub,the floor is bare boarded, the seating is comfy bench type and chairs.
There is a pool table to the right and a darts board to the left.
The pub does cheap food for this area of London and is served from a very small open kitchen which is at the right side of the bar,i liked the look of all dishes being served and most around the £5 or £6 mark.
There were three real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Harveys bitter which went down well, the other beers were Black Sheep bitter and GK IPA.
There is a small conservatory to the rear right which has normal table and chairs and a small outside seating area to the front right.
Decent background music was playing.
I really liked this pub,and will no doubt visit again if with my wife for a meal.

How strange to find a fairly quiet backstreet boozer just a stone’s throw from the hustle and bustle of the busy pubs around Aldgate. It’s very simple inside, from the standard banquettes with normal tables and chairs, to the light pine cladding on the front of the bar counter. Above the counter are half a dozen framed collections of banknotes of the world, which is a bit different, and there’s also a dartboard and pool table here. Unfortunately there’s also games and fruit machines here flashing away at one end of the room, but which I guess are a necessary entertainment in pubs like this that don’t seem to be trying to attract the high end of the drinks and food market. There are also TVs all over the place of course, all muted when I was and tuned to Sky Sports, plus some “pub games” piled up in one of the corners. There’s a smallish garden at the side of the pub.

On the ale front they had on GKIPA and Harvey’s Best (£1.80 a half), with a reversed Ruddles County clip on a third handpump. The Harvey’s was in good nick. I did see a menu on a chalkboard behind the servery – sarnies are £3.95 a pop, and the “specials”, such as Chilli & Rice, are around £6.25. Top of the list is three sausages, chips and beans for £4.95. No gastro stuff here – this is pub grub at pub grub prices.
This is just the sort of of place to escape to for a quiet and decent pint.
