Pub SignMan left this review about The Drum (JD Wetherspoon)

This pub was one of the first to be opened up as part of the now ubiquitous JD Wetherspoons chain. Its small and fairly cosy interior contrasts dramatically with the large drinking barn type pubs normally associated with Wetherspoons, perhaps reflecting the chains evolution over the years. It has a single room layout, but thanks to the irregular shape of the room, the split level bar area at one end and the position of various pillars, it all feels a bit more compact and intimate than you might expect. The decor and furniture was unmistakably 'Spoons standard issue, but normal protocol was broken by the large plasma screen TV showing that night's Champions League fixture with full commentary playing. Apparently there is a conservatory and garden area to the rear, but I didn't get to see this for myself.
Ten hand pumps offered 8 beers and ciders from the current festival line-up plus a couple of 'Spoons regulars. I tried a pint of the Tring Pudding Porter which was on pretty good form. A blackboard behind the bar listed what was available on each pump, which was helpful in avoiding having to walk around the large pillar that is positioned a short distance from the bar counter, in order to view the second bank of hand pumps.
I thought this was a decent pub and a nice variation on what can sometimes seem like an overly formulaic pub chain.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Drum (JD Wetherspoon)

This smallish 'spoons was largely lost from view behind some extensive scaffolding so it was difficult to gain an impression of what the exterior looked like. However, once inside, the building retains a reasonable pub-like atmosphere with a variety of different seating areas. Two banks of five handpumps, offering a pretty good selection from the real ale and cider festival at good prices (e.g. Tring Pudding Porter at £1.95). Overall, worth popping in if in the area.

A Wetherspoons that actually feels like a genuine pub! Fairly compact inside with a TV screen, including sound. 8 or so handpumps offering a good selection from the current festival; the beer was good quality. Reviews below paint a poor picture; the problems seem to have been addressed if my, admittedly brief, visit is anything to go by.

I have just been to one of the worst Wetherspoons pubs in this country. The place is run down and in need of a complete refurbishment. The ladies toilet was disgusting, broken toilet seats, sinks that are in need of a good clean and the rest of the pub is dark and dingy. We ordered breakfast and payed for it then we were told we had to wait 1/2 hour,as we did'n't have time we told the barman?!! we would cancel our breakfast and just have tea, then he decided that it would not take 1/2 hour after all? and he then called out the order to another person who said "oh no not more.... ".Perhaps these staff should find other employment. Still we will not be back to this dive again either to drink or eat.

Well, it’s a Wetherspoons and this can only mean the usual:- Cheap(ish) beer, posters advertising cheap ale and food everywhere, TV’s with no sound and punters falling asleep at their tables come 9pm. However, this delight of a public house, based half way along East London’s Lea Bridge Road, also boasts a delightful female bartender who truly ranks as one of the most miserable people you are ever likely to meet. If you decide to visit this pub, make sure you order a coffee and watch as she throws the little biscuit onto the saucer before taking your orders to the bar and snapping “is that it?!?” in a Nazi-type way. Otherwise, it’s decent beer, dodgy ‘guest ales,’ cheap food and crap, local people galore.

This pub has one of the best selections of beers that I have sampled for a long time. Food is also reasonable. This is an east enders pub, which is used by serious drinkers. Would not take female company there. Several times been there customers have got very vocal and situations have become very volatile, which the staff did nothing to defuse. It appears to be a regulars pub. O.K. to go with the lads for a serious drinking session.

The outside of this pub does not do it justice. Once inside you have a superb selection of real ales. Which are excellant. Food good. This is a drinkers pub who appreciate good beers and this can be seen by the customers who frequent this pub. Would not consider this as a family pub, was not liked by wife. Going back as soon as possible with friends for a late night visit.
