This pub is arguably the most attractive pub in E4 but has always suffered from having a really boring beer selection. It was originally a Courage pub and is now John Barras.
After the recent refurbishment I came here this afternoon to see what is was like. As you enter from the left there is a smallish bar area with other rooms down to the right that looked like they were intended for diners. The whole bar area seems fairly cramped with assorted tables and chairs plus a sofa. There is a highly obtrusive large TV screen taking up most of the far wall right by the bar.
As for the refurbishment it looked to me like it had been done on the cheap, probably by the lager swilling builders that were propping up the bar. The floor looked like a laminate to me rather than proper floorboards and it all looked fairly poor. On the bar there were five hand pumps with only two beers on, Greene King Rocking Rudolph and a 3.7% house beer called Larkshall Bitter from the truly awful Cottage brewery (coincidentally the same ABV as their Southern Bitter). The beers turned round were Doom Bore, London Pride and Directors so there were no regrets there. Advertised on a board behind the bar were Fuller's Black Cab & Honeydew (presumably bottled) and a couple of foreign beers.
I went for the Rocking Rudolph (£3.10) which to be fair was in good condition but served in one of those stupid dimple mugs and I was too late to change it.
This building was originally a farmhouse and has the potential to be a fine pub but it's clearly never going to happen in the hands of the Spirit Group.
I have to pass this pub to get to my local Spoons on the bus and I'm fairly sure I won't be bothering to stop by again. It has got a nice garden but that's not much use this time of year.

This pub which is set back from the main road has been converted from an old farmhouse. It has several seperate drinking areas including an upstairs gallery. Pleasant outside seating area. 3 Real ales on tap.
