Dating from the mid-19th century though possibly rebuilt, the name can be seen in mosaic to the entrance lobby.
However, the interior is one of those horrible, massively tarted-up Young’s jobs with predictable contemporary touches, mixed furniture and all seemingly ‘zoned’; there was also an overpowering smell of fried food, consumed by mixed local punters.
The Young’s choice of London Original and Special were augmented by Gipsy Hill’s Trail, an insulting £3.30 a half and a horrible ‘juicy’ beer.
This is a very corporate affair and as Rex says, this is a place to take your mother; Master Brew and a more authentic pub atmosphere can be found at the Hop Pole almost opposite, but the Cat’s Back is a short walk and is miles better.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Queen Adelaide

Madeover Youngs pub with an attractive exterior featuring some hanging baskets. Comfortable interior, partly opened out to form various seating areas and a dining room to the rear. Extensive patio beer garden beyond. Special, London Gold and Ordinary (£3.45) from the eight handpumps. Whilst obviously not everbody's cup of tea, I thought that this was one of their better refurbishments. (NB - Review dates from July 2012.)

This is another made over Young’s pub that seems to have gone down the gastro route. It’s a big imposing pub occupying a large corner site. Inside there is the usual array of sofas and coffee tables, plus a separate dining area at the back with all the tables set for diners, and there were some normal tables and chairs in a quite comfortable area to the left as you go in. But the one-armed bandit and games machine looked quite incongruous in this pub, and some inoffensive and uninspiring pop music was being played when I was in. On the plus side, I did see some attractive mosaic flooring in the entranceway bearing the name “Queen Adelaide”, which looks pretty old although the exterior of the pub doesn’t look to be a Victorian design.
There were the usual Young’s ales on, with their Bitter weighing in at £3.10 a pint. I would say that this one more Young’s pub that you would be happy to take your mother in, but other than that there is not a lot to recommend it. Although it’s clean and comfortable it still has that sterility and lack of atmosphere that Young’s seem adept at achieving. I’m sure that for some this would be their ideal pub, and good luck to anybody who likes this sort of pub, as there are enough of them about.

Large pub with a large garden. Sells real ale and food available all day. Has wheelchair toilet, but not sure how you can get in, as there are steps at the door. You may have to go through the garden, best to check first. Comfortable seating and candles on the tables. Poker night on Wednesday.
