This dates from at least the start of the 1820s but I suspect was rebuilt later in the century. The exterior displays a rainbow around the parapet, ‘electric Y-fronts’ gay flag and blacked out windows filled with adverts for the likes of drag acts and other similar entertainment; at night, the name to the fascia is illuminated like a Hollywood star’s dressing room mirror.
I arrived just after 10.00 on a Saturday night to a place with bouncers, glass doors with darkness and loud music beyond. And as I didn’t feel like any of this, let alone the entrance fee, I decided to get my Big Tasty from the neighbouring McDonald’s.

Has the feel of a gay bar other than the windows aren't blacked out. No real ales - just keg.

Not a bad place, has a small stage. No real ale. Does food all day and has wheelchair access. Bright interior.
