The pub looks to be one of those upmarket modernised types from the front where there are a few bench seats behind a clipped privet hedge and a small garden gate, but this feeling is soon dispelled once inside where you find a bar with five handpumps in front of you and a number of drinkers sipping pints of good ale. The carpeted red painted room surrounds the central bar and has generally traditional seating at small tables although there are a few sofas to the rear and in the covered outdoor area at the back. My table had a chess/draught board inlaid. There are a few boxing photos on the walls amongst other pictures. Two TVs, one showing originally women's football then followed by rugby while I was there.
A good welcome at the bar, the barman was serving a large round but acknowledged my arrival straightaway. Five pumps, one reversed, the others had Hepworth Prospect, Isle of Purbeck IPA (v good), Harvey's Sussex Best and Downton New Forest. London Drinker available.
I enjoyed my stay here, its the type of pub you can easily settle into and relax.

I was in this pub at the tail end of their recent beer festival. I had pints of the superb Loddon’s Hullabaloo, and the Hepworth Prospect Organic Bitter (both at £3.20 a pint). Being in a pub during a beer festival means that you don’t really see it in its natural state, and there were too many ales to mention, but organising a beer festival does suggest a commitment to real ale. In fact the bar does boast five handpumps, and the barman did tell me that they are usually all in use, with Doom Bar, Landlord, and Harvey’s Best as regulars.
There’s nothing special about the pub itself. The exterior is painted black, and at the front is a small area with a few picnic benches with some black “Havana Club” umbrellas. The dark theme continues inside with the lower half of the walls painted black, and some black (or perhaps very dark brown) banquettes. The remainder of the walls and the ceilings are painted a dull red. Seating is mainly normal chairs, combined with small tables, some inlaid with chess boards, and a few high stools at a ledge on the left, and at the bar. There was also a sofa and low solid table at the back on the left. There is some subdued concealed light on the walls, as well as a few pictures of nothing much in particular. But if it was my pub, I wouldn’t I wouldn’t allow so much blank wall space to remain unoccupied. This has the look of somewhere that someone has tried to give a chic makeover, and failed. It’s not chic at all; in fact it’s a bit tatty in a nice sort of way. I got the feel that it was still a locals’ pub, and that the clientele has remained the same despite, not because of, the “chic” makeover. This is just supposition of course. But having five handpumps on the bar is always an attractive feature for any pub in my opinion! – and does help give the impression that this is still a real pub.

Located at the end of a quiet residential street, the place didn’t look too inviting from the outside, what with its black painted frontage. It was packed on my visit so I couldn’t discern a vast amount about the interior beyond the carpeted floor and dodgy red painted walls. Four ales, the selection was decent but I found the quality a bit hit and miss – still always good to see Westerham on though. The Stone Roses on the jukey turned up against the football made my head hurt. Maybe I caught it at a bad time but I struggled to really find much love for the place.

This is an old picture, has had a paint job. Rugby loving pub, although they will show football and horse racing if it doesn't clash with the rugby. Food not served at all. Large permanent marquee out the back in the garden, which I believe can be hired for parties.
Black Sheep, Tiger & Landord ales are regular and a further guest ale most times.
