This is effectively the bar for the Highlight comedy venue, apparently previously known as Jongleurs. This is the sort of place that I would never set foot in under normal circumstances, but as I was attending a good friend’s retirement party I had no choice as to the venue (although said friend should know better!). It’s nothing like a real pub. On the wall is a large chalkboard advertising vodka & Red Bull shots for £4, or some sort of mystery shot for £1 – I got persuaded to have one of the £1 shots, and I have to say that whoever paid for it got overcharged. There’s no real ale of course – they did do keg John Smith’s, the Kronenbourg was off, and there were numerous other keg fonts dispensing some fizzy stuff. Seating was mainly leather effect chairs, with small round tables. At the back were some of those round mirror balls hanging from the ceiling, flashing light all over the place. Fair enough if you like these sort of places, but they don’t do anything for me.
