Lovely location - overlooking the village pond. Packed solid on a Sunday lunch, so I only saw the inside when battling to the bar, before taking my pint outside. Low beamed, small bar is as much as I registered.

Nice front patio area with wide brollies.

Northern Monk Eternal Session IPA was rather an odd pint - looked like squash when it caught the sun.

With a prominent position overlooking the ponds of Barnes Green this is primarily a food led pub, which was the main reason we were here, and having a fine weather afternoon we utilised one of the high tables along the side of the pub which overlooks the outside alcove area at the back of the pub.
Three of the four handpumps were in operation and alongside Doombar and London Pride was a very passable St Austell’s Propper Job, which went down rather well.
The food and service levels were also good for our visit, so I wouldn’t hesitate to return again if needing to eat. But if it’s just a beer you’re after then there are probably better options in the area.

Clearly an old building, there is a front patio with jumberellas and views over the busy road and pond, while the front door leads to the bar in a section with a low ceiling. To the left and right are alcoves, while around the back of the bar is another servery,a slightly larger room with an open kitchen at the far end, with another alcove area leading back to the front.Lots of nooks and crannies but the interior, furniture and pine flooring now look distinctly worn.Everything is done out in dark wood, but there isn't much of interest on the walls and it just feels functional rather than loved. There is a rear door to a courtyard with more external seating.
The pub serves food from a short menu, there is proper cooking although my salmon& prawn dish wasn't well presented and at £17 felt expensive. There are 4 handpumps with the choice on my visit Doom Bar,London Pride and TT Landlord (NBSS 3).The rear room will have a drop down screen for Euro 21 footie and this is a pub serving food rather than a gastro pub.
It could be a lot better, the pedestrian ale range was typical of a lack of care.

The interior is essentially unchanged since the previous reviewer’s visit, although I didn’t see any tall tables/tall stools (but they could have been skulking in an alcove somewhere). I did spot a very nice Welsh dresser in the area to right of the bar counter though. Furnishings looked quite comfortable. This pub has a nice location overlooking picturesque Barnes Pond, although there’s a busy main road between the pub and the pond. It has all the appearance of a country pub – and of course Barnes would have been in the country when The Sun was built. The seating out at the front of the pub is enclosed by a hedge and is enhanced by the floral displays, both on the outside of the pub and hanging from the lampposts, presumably maintained by the Council.

And I managed to get a pint (Stonehenge Eye-Opener (£3.90)) for less than £4! The other ales on were London Pride, Doom Bar and Sambrook Junction. Food is obviously available, with main courses starting at about £10 or so. This would be an idyllic spot to sit outside and sink a few pints on a summer’s day – if it wasn’t for the main road. But it’s still a good pub, and I would be happy to pay a return visit.

The pub is situated in an attractive location on Barnes Common opposite the pond and a few picnic benches face this across the road. The interior is a complete labrynth, a simple layout to the front with the bar opposite but then all sorts of alcoves and crannies to the side and rear. Areas are generally divided by dark wood and leaded glass screens, floors are wooden and step up and down as you move around the pub. Seating is mixed, with a fair few high butcher's block type tables, most with posies of flowers, but it's that sort of place, trendy, affluent and foody, an open kitchen and servery is situated to the far rear. Menus on the tables and on chalkboards, not your basic pub fare, slow cooked ox cheek with kale colcannon was £10.75, steaks start at £16.50.
As for the drinks, this is where it happened for me, I knew it was out there but it was the venue for my first £4+ pint. Pride, Doom Bar and Moor Beer Co Somerland Gold, a nice hoppy ale and meaty at 5% but £4.05. My visit wasn't on the 1st of this month either. Hmmm.

Nice pub opposite the village pond. The name is very apt, as the sun hits the garden for most of the afternoon. Has wheelchair access. Areas of the pub can be booked. Real ale on sale and food served all day. Pay a visit.

I was in here earlier this week and found the barman to be very polite. There was a blonde woman behind the bar who totally ignored me and I had to wait for said gentleman to come behind the bar before I was served. I thought that she was the cleaner until she started moaning about something on the menu and I realised that she was in charge.

The rear of the pub, which is the majority, seems to be some sort of dining area. The pub front is quite small, but there is plenty of seating outside. There is a duck pond opposite, but it is on the other side of a fairly busy road.

Pride, Bombardier, Broadside, Westons cider, Fruli and some premium lagers were all available. I think that my Pride came to £2.90.

To be honest I quite liked it here and would go back if in the area.

Roger Button left this review about The Sun Inn

I called on a rare sunny evening to find the front terrace with its seating overlooking pond fairly busy but there was plenty of space inside the rambling interior. The low ceilings, multiple pillars and fairly dim lighting make exploring the pub a bit like caving and there are several snugs, nooks and crannies that open up around every corner. The place has been sympathetically refurbished and retains a lot of character with its bare floors, oddball selection of seating, lighting, quirky décor and, er, an elephant! A selection of newspapers and board games are available to pass away the time although the Ale selection was, to be honest, rather standard (Pride, Adnams & Bombardier). Westons Organic Cider made a refreshing change and there was a good choice of continental draught beers. There also appeared to be good disabled facilities. Behind the pub is a walled bowling green, claimed to be the oldest in England, where they still play to the original rules. There are suggestions that Sir Francis Drake taught Queen Elizabeth I to play bowls here although the blurb on the wall of the pub says the club was only formed in 1725. It is quite an interesting place and I quite warmed to it although a few more interesting ales would help.

The Sun Inn is a nice looking old pub that is in a nice location opposite the duck pond.
Once inside the pub had an olde worlde feel to it making the pub seem quite cosy and comfortable on a cold day, there were two real ales on the bar i had a drink of London Pride which was very expensive at £2.80 a pint when most Youngs houses were charging around £2.20 pint, the other beer was Oakham JHB.
The pub was very quiet on my dinnertime visit but i was'nt surprised when they were charging so much for a pint of bitter, having said that i did quite like this pub and the drink was also quite nice.
