Tris C left this review about The Miller

As the Miller of Mansfield, this pub dates from the late 18th century, this incarnation rebuilt in the ‘60s, the result of estate building or bombing, I know not.
It’s pretty hideous from the outside, but inside it’s a rambling affair featuring a red and black colour scheme with a boarded floor but a bar array which looks original; other modern period touches are an egg and dart cornice, some wood panelling to the wall and also a few etched glass dividers. Furniture is mismatched and décor is eclectic, lighting muted and from some lamps which look a bit 1960s (see photo); the ensemble reminded me of the nearby Lord Nelson but less insane. There’s much going on here, with live music, comedy, table tennis, hoopla and London’s largest cider festival, featuring 100 ciders every July. Customers are very studenty, indeed the overall feel is like that of being in a student union bar, which is probably explained by the pub being loomed over by Guy’s Hospital, a teaching hospital with nine campus buildings in the immediate vicinity.
On offer were two Seaciders, but I’m not sure if this constitutes ‘real cider’ though. Thereafter there were four reversed clips then Small Beer Co’s Small Beer at 2.8% - custodian 42 would be mortified – then Adnams Southwold at a very reasonable £2.50 a half, served by a decent barman, possibly the proprietor.
This place was far better than expected, with a surprisingly good vibe, the whole making for something very different; this would make for a good triple with the Britannia and Simon the Tanner; a wider and more interesting cask selection would have got the score up.

Awful looking pub from the outside. Bit better inside. Long entrance room with the bar to the left at the end. Various hand pumps and ciders, the latter at 6.9% which was quite pleasant. Doubt I'll be back, though.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Miller

Ugly-looking pub, and the inside isn't up to much either, with basic furniture and limited decor. What it does usually have, though, is a decent crowd of mostly younger people and a good atmosphere. Also has a patio area to one side and a music venue upstairs. Features a total of eight handpumps, four of which offer ciders, with the ales being Abbot, Cameron's Strongarm and Sadler's Peaky Blinders black IPA (£4.30) on this visit.

The Miller is an estate type pub just the sort i like going in,but this one is not really on a proper estate.
Once inside this is a very big pub with lots of different drinking areas, the main room is T shaped with the bar facing, the room is bare boarded and the seating normal tables and chairs to the left and bench seating and leather settees t the right, there is some american diner type seating to the front and a pool table in a separate area to the rear.
There were two real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Belhaven Golden Bay which went down very well, the other beer was Old Golden Hen.
Decent background music was playing and the pub was almost empty on my Tuesday afternoon visit.
I quite liked this pub, just a shame they dropped the "of Mansfield" from its name.

Now shorn of its “Of Mansfield” suffix, the Miller is a modern and distinctly ugly estate pub primarily aimed at students from the nearby Kings College. There is little of aesthetic merit inside or outside, the rambling interior being quite scruffy and basic although the appeal to the student populous is quite apparent. The walls contain several murals and an eclectic mix of artwork whilst an area of the ceiling has netting billowing from above. The furnishings are somewhat battered and random and overall it conveys a take us as you find us ‘cos that’s the way it is attitude.

A pool table is housed to the right of the bar and at the front and side are patios with a few benches, the latter in the shadow of a large mural that covers the entire side wall of the pub.

Product wise, of the 5 hand pumps, 2 were unused on my latest visit, 2 were in action (Greene King Abbot and Bath Barnsey) and 1 had a reversed clip (Wolf Straw Dogs). Prices were a bit high given the target demigraph (the Barnsey was £3.80) although the Thai food was pretty reasonable at around £6-£8 a dish.

Upstairs is a function room with a nightly dose of live music or comedy. The pub is always quite vibrant but I’d need to be 30 years younger to fully appreciate the place. I can well understand the pub having its detractors but it does throw up a few interesting ales and for that reason alone, is usually worth a quick detour if in the area.

Rex Rattus left this review about Miller Of Mansfield

This place really doesn’t look up to much from the outside, so that I just had to drop in to see if it was a case of not judging a book by its cover. Actually it wasn’t as bad as I feared, but it wasn’t good either. I have been to Government canteens with more character – it had a dismal feel to it. A Thai menu is displayed on the outside wall. There were a couple of ales on (I have forgotten what they were - nothing special), but I stood at the bar for a short while and as nobody appeared to serve me, my desire to get back to London Bridge got the better of me and I left.
