Rex Rattus left this review about Duke Of Edinburgh

This one did have Doom Bar on (I failed to note the price, but as I recall it wasn't expensive), with a second pump bearing a reversed London Glory clip. I didn't see any sign of food on Wednesday lunchtime. The Doom Bar wasn't brilliant, just about falling into the drinkable category.

There is clearly an Irish connection judging by the leprechauns painted on the window, the shamrocks around the place, and the horse racing being shown on the TV. It's now a very basic single-room pub, although it looks as if an attempt has been made to give it an upmarket, or perhaps a country flavour. There are now batons on the ceiling and some fake beams, all painted grey, and the mantelpiece above the fireplace near where we sat is now what looks like an recycled piece of timber. The bar counter is painted crimson; to match the crimson upholstery. The bar back is modern; the bar counter may be original or inter-war, but it's hard to tell under the crimson paint.

It was well patronised on Wednesday afternoon with a couple of dozen or so drinkers in, but most of the punters were drinking lager, with one or two going for the Guinness, which with the benefit of hindsight would probably have been a better bet than the poor quality Doom Bar. I am happy that this one has survived, and hope that it is the way its locals like it to be. But I'm not likely to visit again.
