This pub has a corporate feel and quite lavish furniture but little in the way of pub atmosphere. There is a seperate hotel entrance to the side, the interior is open plan these days but would have had a seperate front bar, with the rear of the building accessed through a large side doorway.Beyond the bar is a parqet floored conservatory area and access to a walled beer garden, while to the side and front there was a lot of external seating, mainly benches.
A pleasing feature is some inlaid mosaic around the bar while the muzak was as hip as the menu. The ale selection was Fullers London Pride,Dark Star Open Haze (ludicrously expensive at £3 a half,NBSS 3) while St Austell Tribute was "coming soon".
Smart, clean but forgettable,I can see no good reason to return

The history here goes back to the late 18th century, but the current structure is obviously a rebuild and is still a hotel, grade II listed.
The previous four reviews probably still apply: a part white but mainly smoky blue colour scheme, modern herringbone floor with patterned tiled bar apron, traditional but modern furniture with a deep red vinyl application, studded to the banquettes. There’s a dark wood and mirrored bar back, along with some modern dark joinery with glass infill to give the impression of age, mixed gilt framed pictures, the larger ones illuminated with brass picture lamps, overall lighting coming from dangly glass lanterns. Customers were mixed, the pub well attended, including an annoying yapping dog, barely audible music playing over the stereo.
Ale amounted to Doom, By the Horns Pale Ale (‘coming soon’) then Signal’s Absolutely Fuggled at a very pricey £3.10 a half and as dull as the other Signal beers I’ve sampled, served by a clueless barman, wearing a Gipsy Moth corporate shirt, so was probably supply staff on secondment from that neighbouring hostelry.
This is quite a dull pub with a corporate feel, poor and expensive ale choice and annoying dog. I wouldn’t come here again, but it’s better than the Greenwich Tavern.

A quite glorious free-standing building on the main road but the interior has had rather too much of the designer treatment which isn't great, although apparently a big refurb is planned. The main area is nicely high-ceilinged, with a further room and conservatory behind; patio area at the rear. On handpump was just a tired Doom Bar, with Proper Job badged but off, plus a couple of fruit ciders. Sadly the staff seemed more interested in each other than the customers, while the food looked expensive with gastro pretensions. Great potential but not making it at the moment.

Attractive from the outside with nice well maintained foliage, the inside is also pleasant with well polished dark woodwork, a mixed range of seating and dark blue walls contrasting with the red upholstered banquettes. A truncated, or possibly elongated, L-shape, depending upon your viewpoint, or which end you are at, boarded flooring with occasional large rugs, an attractive coloured tiled splash area along the side wall bar, décor includes a long panorama of the Royal Naval College on a downstand beam as well as an unusual and varied selection of lampshades. Clear glass windows let in plenty of light at the front and allow for watching the world go by, to the rear the pub extends into a conservatory with an attractive walled garden beyond.
Five handpumps, two were unclipped, the others offered Pride, Doom Bar and Windsor & Eton Knight of the Garter which was in good nick and a real contrast to our previous offerings in the riverside Trafalgar.
They do accommodation here, apparently AA 4* rated, bar food is also served, fish and chips £11.75, posh sounding sausage and mash with red wine gravy £9.75.
The place was reassuringly busy on a mid Saturday afternoon and not just with tourists, shoppers, locals both in evidence. Worth including on a jaunt around Greenwich.

Roger Button left this review about The Mitre

Originally a coffee shop, the Mitre opened as a Coaching Inn in 1827 following a major fire that presumably put paid to its previous existence. Today it still serves as a hotel as well as being 2 pubs for the price of one.

The interior appears to have once been 3 rooms, now all knocked through although the divisions are still apparent. The main central bar area is fairly long and narrow but opens out at both eneds, one with a homely centrally located with a narrowish area is quite narrow but there are more spacious areas at both ends which both have partly raised sections. The carpets have been lifted top expose rough bare planking with a few large rugs and some tiling around the bar area. There is a good mix of traditional furnishings with some quite alluring leather seating gibving the place an almost opulent feel.
A random mix of old portraits, pictures and snippets of great Irish authors and playwrights adorn the walls and the piped music is generally quite unobtrusive if rather bland.

The 4 hand pumps appear to offer 2 regular ales (Greene King IPA and Doom Bar) and a couple of guests (Sharps Honey Gold and Hogs Back Summer Ale on my last visit). Prices are as expected for the area although the food isn’t cheap with main courses around £10-16 for main courses.

The separate O’Sullivan’s Bar (there is an underplayed Irishness about the pub in general) has its own entrance but the opening hours are limited. It seems to be used mainly as a coffee shop during the day and is only open certain evenings. This is more of a traditional Irish theme bar and there are no ales, just the usual kegs, lagers etc.

The customer base has always been fairly civilidsed when I have been here although service can be a slow, even when not busy. The pub is handily placed near all the tourist hotspots and you will pass it if going to/from the station. As far as Greenwich pubs go, I would certainly consider it at the better end of the spectrum.

Four handpumps but just two in use yesterday, Hogsback TEA & Adnams Bitter, down to just Adnams as we were leaving - early Sat evening that's simply not good enough.
