A first the other afternoon into what was originally the Edinburgh Castle, a former Courage pub as evinced by the golden cockerel straddling the sign frame.
This is a surprisingly large, very basic pub but it’s positively Claridge’s compared to the Tarmon further down. There’s a central servery with a rough bare boarded floor with simple furniture, games machines and football on the projector. Customers are a local, jolly bunch.
A very friendly barmaid wasn’t serving up any real ale, but a half of craft keg Chieftain IPA cost a fairly reasonable £2.10 a half.
This is a decent place for a drink but providing their ale isn’t off, the Hemmingford up the road provides a more traditional pub experience.

Only gave 8 because it's in need of redecoration outside!
Now, although I'm biased as I have "connections" with the pub - it's still a lovely friendly, comfortable place.
We're putting on entertainment Friday and Saturday evenings and pub piano on Thursdays 6 to 8pm.
Its great having the piano, gives a real "old London" pub feel!!

UPDATE!!!
Pub piano will be back in the winter - people are enjoying the great weather by sitting out in the beer garden!
BBQ's are the order of the season!!
