The last time I was in here was in the mid-'80s. It was a traditional boozer back then and I recall a friend trying to nick one of their cut glass ashtrays; he was busted and the landlord promptly locked the door, telling a member of staff to call the police, before realising that given our age, the police might be more interested in the landlord's entry policy than mid-teenage petty criminals; we were let go, but banned.
A return the other night and I agree with the other reviewers, that this is a rather bland, heavily made over pub, with gastro hues of paint, tiling and framed prints with all the customers seemingly dining. Alongside three unused pumps, there was London Original, Special and Winter Warmer at £2.75 a half and fine.
This isn't really what I'd describe as a pub, but given the pubs in this area are seemingly so poor, it's better than average for the area, but nevertheless a below average experience compared to a proper pub.

Having crossed over into Chelsea after a Sunday afternoon constitutional through Battersea Park I was strolling the lanes south of the Kings Road looking for a decent backstreet Mews pub to have a beer in and the Coopers Arms was the nearest thing I could find with all the other pubs in this part of town seemingly more operating as out and out restaurants, especially in the case of the nearby Phene and The Surprise.
Well described by previous reviewers, yes this largely one bar pub has been visited by the Young’s makeover team who couldn’t resist putting an area of soft furnishings in a couple of places, but fortunately the main bar area is sufficiently pubby in nature to be able to sit and enjoy a pint and a packet of crisps.
The bar has an impressive array of six hand pumps, but only three in operation with Youngs Special and two badged with Youngs ordinary. We tried both and they were in decent nick. Food obviously plays a serious part here as well, but there were plenty of others in on this late Sunday afternoon just drinking, and you did not feel out of place just doing so.

A Youngs boozer in an affluent area. Fairly dull and opened out inside, with grey/blue walls and jumbo windows. To the rear is a small pseudo lounge with comfy chairs and tiled walls, leading to a walled garden. This would have been the nicest place in the pub to sit were it not for the smell of stale wee gently wafting out of the gents nearby. Just Youngs Ordinary and Special, the latter of which was in decent nick. Too bland in both décor and beer choice to warrant any sort of special visit. 5.5

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Coopers Arms

A fairly spacious bar, 'made over' by the Youngs corporate team, but refurbished in a relatively restrained style compared with some of their efforts. The furniture is reasonably traditional (except for a few high tables/benches), but there is so much dark wood inside it is fairly gloomy despite the large-ish windows. Some Jak cartoon proofs on display. There is also a small patio beer garden to one side. Beer-wise, there is a reasonable selection from the Youngs/Wells stable on the six handpumps (including Ordinary, Special, Bombardier and the seasonal Waggle Dance) plus Wandle as a guest.

Effectively a single room but with a couple of recessed areas to one side and a strange couple of tables hidden away at the end of the room but right next to the toilets. There is an outdoor area with modern garden furniture and also a seperate (unvisited) upstairs room accessed to the rear of the bar. The refurb is typical Young's, and rather "Chelsea" too, there is wallpaper designed to look like a collection of sepia photographs, a fireplace has been covered with wood panelling, and a stag's head hung above it, seating though is generally fairly standard but there is a row of high tables with rather flimsy covered bench seats in front of the main run of windows. The food menu from Sharon's kitchen looked ok and not excessively priced despite the area. Six pumps, Youngs Bitter and Special, Bombardier, Doom Bar, Sambrook's Wandle and Butcombe Bitter (£3.40). A dimpled mug was offered as the default ale glass but no issue with changing it for a straight glass. I did need to ask for a significant top up though.
I didn't find this place too bad on the whole but I'd say it promises more from the outside than is found on entering.

This is typical of a Young's “madeover” pub with all the character removed. The Young's Bitter I had was not particularly good either. It's clean and clinical with typically Chelsea yellow walls. Food centric of course – the trouble with fish and chips (that a couple seated near me were eating) is that everybody nearby gets to experience the somewhat overpowering aroma. I've been to many much worse pubs, but I can't really see any reason to return to this one.
