The building is quite attractive from the outside, and the rambling interior with its various snugs can be quite comfortable. It's generally light and airy, and the ambiance is busy yet calm. Nothing particularly special, just a nice Nicholson's with the standard range of food and ales. What marks it down is the attitude from the staff who are generally impatient and unhelpful. eight ales on, I had pints each of Moors Gold and Moors Porter, both well kept and thoroughly enjoyable. Worth a look as it is directly opposite St James's Park tube station and near enough other good pubs to form part of a decent crawl.

The previous two reviews are spot on - there's nothing intrinsically wrong with this place but I did feel it had something missing - maybe a saturday afternoon visit wasn't the best time to sample it. For Nicholson's, who have some of the best pub interiors in London, I felt it was rather ordinary, although I had a nice pint of Wolf Coyote Bitter. I'm sure given its location (adjacent to the Ministry of Justice and Scotland Yard) it does absolutely fine for business but I can't say I'll quickly return.

I’ve had an indifferent relationship with the Feathers over the years that I worked nearby. It is a decent enough if aesthetically disjointed pub and certainly wouldn’t rank among my favourite Nicholsons establishments. Occasionally the service has been woefully inadequate and drinks measures shorter than Tom Thumb in kneepads and whilst it has improved on both counts in my more recent visits, I can’t help feeling that customers are often treated as little more than an inconvenience.

The current building dates from 1899 and was built on the site of a previous pub first recorded in 1745. The feathers of the pub’s name refer to those in the crest of the Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII) at the time the pub was built. The interior has a slightly odd layout of drinking areas and little nooks that gives it an element character although the better features are usually offset by tacky or uninspiring décor. The mix of styles may not be to everyone’s taste – the walls are adorned with dull paintwork, elaborate rich wallpaper, fine wood paneling or bare brick depending on which part of the pub you are in. The interior feels quite gloomy despite the large picture windows and a skylight at the rear. The TV’s that once hang on the side walls have been moved to the corners where they are less obvious when not being used but still well placed for whatever they screen (which is usually nothing). An open staircase leads to a balcony bar which is more for table service dining when it is open.

The 2 standard ales (Landlord & London Pride) are supplemented by up to 4 guest beers and, like Nicholsons in general, prices and quality are ver good for central London. Lists of the ales are well displayed behind the bar and on blackboards and the usual Nicholsons tasting notes and prices are clearly defined on the pump handles.

With several decent pubs in the immediate vicinity, the Feathers will never be a regular haunt of mine, more a convenient wet day stop off although I certainly acknowledge recent improvements in standards

This is a Nicholson’s pub, with a pretty good ale selection available – London Pride; Doom Bar; Tribute; Bombardier; and Landlord. All were under £3 a pint. There are some attractive (possibly original) wood panelled walls, and some rather nice leaded lights above the front of the pub. There’s also a large skylight above the raised area at the back of the pub – possibly there was a billiards table there at some time, or maybe it just serves to give some welcome natural light to the back of the pub.
I came in here in the 60s – I can’t remember much about it, but I do remember that it was a fairly basic boozer then. It’s nothing like a backstreet boozer now of course, but it’s not a bad pub. Not really worth going out of your way for, but OK nonetheless.

This is a nice enough Nicholsons pub with six ales and a selection of standard and premium draught products available from the genial governor. There was some inoffensive background music playing and I seem to remember some plasma screens, but these were off as no sport was being played.

I’d pop in here again if passing.

An unscheduled stop yesterday, this is a fairly large Nicholsons with a big main front bar, and a smaller more comfortable raised area to the rear. Stairs curve up at the front to "The Black Princes" dining rooms. The main bar area has wooden floors, panelled columns with drinking shelves attached, and seating along the side wall. I preferred the rear section with its chequered tiled floor, stained glass rooflight and smaller tables. There is a long upholstered bench along the back wall. Architecturally rather grand but spoilt a bit by the air-con cassettes and duct boxiing on what was clearly once a decent ornate ceiling. TT Landlord, Pride, Jennings Cumberland Ale, Springhead Polar Beer, and Skinners Splendid Tackle on yesterday. The usual Nicholsons sausage menu is rather heavily advertised. The place isn't particularly special, but ok for a stop off.

This is a fairly large pub, with an upstairs balcony area, that seems mostly roped off. Sells real ale. Just down the road from New Scotland Yard, so you might be rubbing shoulders with a policman or a tv news reporter. Gets very busy in the evenings, especially Friday. Stand your ground as some of the bar staff, seem to have favourites who they tend to serve first, even though you were there before them. Worth a visit.
