Youngs pubco house, with quite a small ground floor interior with a raised area to the left,a long bar in two sections and then a square mirrored section with bench seating.I quite liked the cosy feel and the second larger set of handpumps are the ones operational and offering on my trip Youngs Ordinary and Special,a real cider and guest of Redemption Big Chief (saved the trip,NBSS 3.5).There is an upstairs seating and terrace but I didnt venture up there.
The food offering was pub grub style with starters around £8,mains median £18 reflecting the very upmarket area. However most punters were just drinking and I enjoyed the boozer vibe.Worth popping into for a quick one if the guest ale I had is typical of the offer.

This is still a Youg's pub, which had on their Bitter and Special, as well as Truman's Scorcher and and Adnam's Mosaic. I thought that the food was quite expensive, even for this well-heeled area; beer-battered cod, triple-cooked chips, mushy peas and tartare sauce is 14.5 (or £14.50 in my language), as is the sausage and mash. The best area to sit downstairs seems to be on a small raised area on the left as you enter which has just a couple of tables and chairs, but has views out over Primrose Hill. At the other end of the room is a seating area with a wall consisting entirely of latticed and bevelled mirrors. There's another seating area upstairs, which has a small balcony on the left, which of course also looks out over Primrose Hill.

This is clearly an ex-Charrington pub, judging by the "House of Toby" panels on the exterior, now sadly painted over in grey. Also sadly painted over is the original brewery tiling on the ground floor walls. But despite its upmarket ambience I quite liked this pub. The furnishings are comfortable normal tables and chairs, and the Truman's Scorcher I had was in excellent condition.

On approach, this looks like a large Victorian street corner pub, but upon entering it comes as a great surprise to find such a shallow interior, with the pub essentially offering two small seating areas either side of the servery. The original two bar layout is very much evident, with entrance doors at either end of the pub now opening into the same room. The servery occupies the mid-section of the back wall and is split up by a couple of large pillars. The left hand side is small and rather basic, offering limited seating on a raised platform from which you should be able to get a half decent view out towards Primrose Hill. Some stairs here lead up to a compact first floor dining room which provides some much needed overspill from the cramped ground floor. There are a couple of high stools in the narrow space opposite the bar, before the room eventually opens out a little into the marginally bigger right hand seating space. There is a bench along the end wall, which has been covered in mirrors to give the impression of a larger space, and standard chairs around chunky square tables filling the rest of the room. The front windows here boast a bit of stained glass, which looked quite attractive with the winter sun shining through. Boards around the bar area listed a wide range of activities planned for the festive period including a pub quiz and a Christmas jumper party. We stopped here for something to eat after a long walk and thought the menu was pretty pretentious and too expensive, which seems just about right for this particular part of town. I had some sort of fish dish and remember wishing I'd held on a little longer and bought something tastier at half the price from Camden Market instead.
This is a Youngs pub and four of their beers - Ordinary, Special, Winter Warmer and Queen's Speech - were available, although the Special went off shortly after our arrival. My pint of Winter Warmer was okay but nowhere near as good as I remember it from previous years. A Weston's Cider occupied a final handpull.
The area around Primrose Hill has always struck me as a fairly unlovable part of London where everything is overpriced to make the people who live there feel like they have somehow made it in life, and in many ways this pub reflects everything I dislike about the neighbourhood. A charming traditional pub has been reduced to a bland gastro-style identikit venue selling bland beer and sub-standard 'on-trend' food well above the going rate. Worth a quick look for what is left of the building, but I certainly won't be returning.

Just refurbished, this is a surprisingly small and narrow pub with decent staff just on the corner of Primrose Hill.

There's a raised area to the left as you enter - 'The Queen's Corner' - and there's also a fire. Furniture is eclectic and rustic, the floor is bare boarded and worn. A very decent selection of drinks is available from Young's and guests. Also available are beers from the Camden Brewery, premium lagers and a cider. My pint of Special was good and priced at around the £4.20 mark which is in keeping with the area.

On the down side, live sport was being shown - albeit with the sound down - and there were several horrible yapping dogs, one of which was trodden on - LOL! The lavatories are rather poor; cramped and with a tiny cubicle, virtually no paper, the floor awash with 'liquid'.

This pub has been substantially improved since my last visit a couple of years ago; no more sauce bottles on the tables or candles in Marmite jars, but I'd give the pub three or four extra points if they got rid of the sport, ditched the dogs which roam freely about unsupervised and constitute dangerous tripping hazard as above; I don't fancy landing on a pint glass and severing an artery.

Situated at the foot of Primrose Hill a mere 5 minutes from the spectacular viewpoint at the top, this is a long and narrow pub with the bar along the back wall and bare boarded floors. The room does widen out at the far end where there are unusual mirrored walls set between wooden Georgian style framing, at the other end is a raised section with large tables called "Queen's Corner", this can be reserved however it is not separate from the pub. Precipitous narrow stairs lead upwards to Queen's Kitchen, directed by a gaudy red illuminated sign, I didn't risk the ascent but I suppose it leads to a formal dining area. The bar area has drinking shelves at the windows, it is too narrow here for tables as well, otherwise seating is mostly of the standard type. There are attractive leaded windows with stained glass top sections, those at the Queen's Corner end look out at the view of Primrose Hill.
A warm and comfortable spot, a real fire was on the go, welcome on a chilly but thankfully bright day, the pub TV was showing the RBS 6 Nations to an enthusiastic bunch of punters, this is clearly a rugby pub, all the forthcoming fixtures were listed on a chalkboard by the bar. Food is served but I made no enquiries, board games are available on the top of the fireplace. Continental style outdoor pavement seating, well this is Primrose Hill.
The pub remains a Young's house, they had Bitter, Special, Winter Warmer and Bombardier, I went for the guest Twickenham Grandstand which although fine, came in at an over the top £4.14 which to me is just too much for a 3.8% beer. They can afford it around here though, they could charge what they want. A nice pub in a good spot but losing a point for the pricing.

A skinny/narrow interior serves Young's beer and food. I didn't visit the upstairs area. The real fire was welcome on a cold winters day.

It was a bit crammed in here during my visit and it took a while to be served, but the staff were polite enough when it was finally my turn. The pub looks big from the outside, but the actual bar area is quite thin. Maybe I missed another room behind the bar?
A few of the locals were watching the football on a small plasma screen at one end of the pub and at the other end there is a raised area that seemed to be the prime location to sit.

I had a very nice pint of Deuchars and Ordinary and Special were also available alongside a selection of standard and premium lagers.

I thought it was OK in here, but I didn't find it to be the best pub in the Primrose Hill area.
