More of a bar than pub, a single fairly large room with more seating upstairs, a couple of large screen tvs were showing darts. The three handpumps sported just one turned Doom Bar clip, there was a large selection of keg fonts mostly of mainstream stuff with a little added well known craft brands, I settled for BrewDogs Punk IPA. Another place I am unlikely to see again.

A pub, originally called the Roebuck, has been here since at least the late 18th century. I came here once, not out of choice, but to wait for the bus queues to die down following a tube strike around 1990. Back then it was called Canons, later a Firkin pub, the current name in existence from I know not when.
This area isn't exactly a hotbed of quality pubs and there are few positives here in what is essentially a transient tourists' and officer workers' watering hole with a sports bent. It's a formulaic pub with conventional furniture including some peripheral leather banquettes. The bored-looking mainly middle-aged male clients are entertained by a couple of games machines and three TVs showing the footie, thereafter muted music played when the game finished. Food comprises basic fry-up fayre.
Ales: Greene King IPA, Redemption's Trinity, Fuller's London Pride, Sharp's Doom Bar and Hogsback's TEA at a very decent £1.90 a half. Though a little dull, it was ok and the quality, choice and especially price are way more of an incentive to drink here rather than in the Fitzrovia Belle over the road which charges twice the price for a similar beer, has a less appealing interior and assaults the senses with fully four extra TVs; this is clearly the better of the two, but I can't see a reason to return.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Court

Unbranded M&B (Oak Tree) pub, with a mid-size rectangular bar plus an upstairs room. Further seating outside on the pavement. Fairly anonymous furniture and decor. Reasonably priced all-day menu. Background music. Pride, Pedigree (£3.55), Rev James and Sharp's Atlantic from four of five handpumps on this visit.

I visited this pub for the second time on Saturday afternoon whilst a Premiership game was being shown on the two plasma screens via Sky Sports. The were a few people in watching the football, which was a far cry from the pub packed full of students singing along to the Scissor Sisters that I encountered on a Friday night visit a year ago. I also visited the room upstairs this time and found another couple of plasma screens and a pool table in a comfortable area on the way to the toilets. There were some advertisements up for live music and there is also a video internet jukebox.

There are three hand pumps on the bar that were pulling Marstons EPA, Brakspear and Everards Tiger. There is also a range of standard draught products including four ciders; this is a student pub after all. The service was friendly, but a little slow and the Guinness wasn’t up to scratch – maybe it was the first of the day. The food is fairly cheap and seems to consist mainly of burgers which I imagine are aimed again at the students with their yellow discount cards.

Some seating can be found under awnings on both sides of this corner pub next to the pavement.

I wouldn’t go out of my way to drink here again, but I did come away with a better opinion of the place than after my last visit.
