UPDATE:
Closed, taken over by Oakman Inns and refurbed, with a new dining area built out back this continues.on the food front and all tables were laid out for dining in a drunker-unfriendly manner, although solo imbibing was not frowned upon. Fuller's London Pride, Darkstar Hophead and Malt Moderation on the three handpumps - the latter with a note stating the brewery was only 888 steps away (it's on the same stretch of road). £3.95 for the Malt so not overly pretentious, but it lots its appeal as a pub a long time ago.

This trades more on its food trade than wet, but given the closure of the nearby Kings Head, this makes the effort with four locAles - two from nearby Malt and two other Bucks brewers' efforts in Rebellion IPA and Vale Brill Gold, although one of the Malt offerings (Voyager) came in at a premium price of £4.10. The main bar area is a little bit 'Granny's front room' with china plates hung on a mustard-coloured wall to the left and some taxidermic displays, including a mounted fox's head sporting sunglasses. which may not be to everyone's taste. Standard tables and chairs abound with some upholstered bench seats against the entrance walls and the bar has a flintstone construct with some nice (original) dark wood. The small area opposite the bar has a low, sagging ceiling (which suggests the building has been added to over the years) as well as a small inglenook fireplace. Dining is located in a separate room accessed past the bar. Bonus marks for the local ales, but it's a little soulless so not a destination venue by any stretch.
