Will Larter left this review about The Retro Bar

I've not been in, so haven't supplied a rating, but just thought it worth mentioning that ETA's "ghastly hole down a filthy back alley entered through a pile of litter whose smell was amplified by the patio-heater" from five years ago appears to have been cleaned up. George Court looks clean enough to eat your breakfast from (admittedly I didn't try this for myself) and certainly the exterior of Retro Bar looks clean and, if your taste runs to drag queens, inviting. I would guess that real ale is probably still not available here, though.

Nothing special about this place. Guinness was OK but there was no real ale at all.

E TA left this review about The Retro Bar

A ghastly hole down a filthy back alley entered through a pile of litter whose smell was amplified by the patio-heater-emphasised heat-trap the alley has become. The bar was dirty, noisy and crowded. Staff were unfriendly. No real ale on offer, just overpriced megakeg. I have no desire to go back here.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Retro Bar

I had forgotten that this is now known as a gay pub, although this isn't immediately obvious since it seems to attract quite a mixed crowd. Very busy early on a Friday evening, with - as is so often the case in central London - many customers standing outside on the pavement. This is just as well as there is precious little space in the small, 'L'shaped bar. Lots of interesting black and white photographs on the walls, and plenty of cabaret, quizes and other events advertised in the upstairs room (not visited). Decent selection of music on the jukebox. Main problem is the beer - no real ale, so it was just a quick pint of John Smiths (surprisingly only £2.90) and I was off.

Rex Rattus left this review about The Retro Bar

This pub used to be called The George, which is quite logical since it is at the bottom of George Steps, and just along George Court. Retro Bar Court just doesn’t work at all. I seem to recall drinking Courage Best in here, but now there’s no real ale, just some bog standard lagers. Inside it has the same structural layout as in years past, being a sort of L-shaped room, but it is still pretty Spartan, with nothing attractive about it that I noticed. In fact I can’t think of anything worth saying about this place. It’s certainly not the simple little pub that it used to be.
