Old Blue left this review about Royal Oak Inn

The Royal Oak is usually known to locals as ‘The Splash’ because you have to cross a shallow ford to get here. It is a large village inn dating from the 17th century. Multi-roomed, the main bar is to the right as you enter, with a pool room behind, all with white walls, traditional beams and furniture and a roaring real fire. There is a traditional restaurant to the left and a conservatory restaurant to the rear. A large beer garden is behind, with picnic tables, and a small smoking tent also with picnic tables.

Ales served from five handpulls were Timothy Taylor Landlord, Greene King IPA, Abbot, Black Sheep Bitter, and Dixons Rudolphs Revenge, variously priced from £2.65 to £3.10. Food is big here, and although we’d already eaten we noted that the Sunday roasts come in at £8.75, and there is a curry night on Thursdays, fish night Fridays, and grill night on Sundays. I thought this was a really good country pub for drinkers and diners alike, and I’ll certainly try to come back here next time I’m in the area.
