Steve C left this review about The Witch & The Wardrobe

Located on the north bank of the River Witham, the Witch & The Wardrobe was busy with a local crowd during a recent late Thursday afternoon visit. There is seating to the left and right of the entrance and the televisions throughout were supplying some quite loud background music. The bar counter is split down the middle by a supporting column and is centrally located on the rear wall opposite the entrance. There is also a back bar that was packed, and a raised seating area to the left rear. Standard keg was available alongside Birra Moretti and two of the five hand pumps were in operation drawing Pedigree and Jennings Brewery’s Cumberland. The service was polite, but I didn’t find the locals to be overly welcoming. In fact I ended up in a stare off with one of them, which ended when I crossed my legs and my jeans split across my fat arse. Thankfully M&S was still open. Ashamedly, this isn’t the first time my trousers have ended up in a high street bin.

Sadly all the previous reviews are now well out of date. It's now a bit of a dump. In a great position on the River Witham, but the inside is now very shabby and unloved. Two sides to the pub served by a central bar. Tatty carpet and wires sticking out all over the place. Ladies toilets not fit to be used according to Ms CAMRA. There's a beer yard at the back, but this is also unkempt. Only two beers available and these were both from "Mansfield" brewery which no longer exists, so brewed in a Marston's beer factory. My pint was just about OK. Won't be coming here again, it's a mess.

This is a detached Marstons' pub and eatery, over looking the River Witham, with a beer garden at the back - and full of character. It is Tudor in origin, with what look like 19th century alterations. It is in stone, with white plasted front. The upper storey has a couple of large sash windows flanking a bow window, while on the ground floor there is a central entrance flanked by Tudor-style stone windows. I love the roof, hipped on side and gabled the other!

The interior is open plan in a big L-shape, with the ceiling supported by columns and beams. It is in stone, red and cream, with a white beam ceiling and a carpet floor. To the right there is a pool table and TVs, with sport on. To the left is the dining area, where we sat. We didn't eat so can't comment on that. Behind a stone internal window feature is a snug area. There are old photos and prints of Lincoln on the walls and the background music was general and at a decent level. The service was friendly and there were a few people in eating, as well as a few locals.

Beer; the usual tap stuff with Jennings Queen Bee, Banks's Lions Roar, Brakspear Oxford Gold, Mansfield Bitter and Pedigree Old Father Time on handpull.

We popped in on a Saturday night and couldn't get to the bar, so came back the following day when it was empty. I really enjoyed my stop here and would definitely go back. Could saty here for several!

Real Ale Ray left this review about The Witch & The Wardrobe

A very well kept Marston's house, serving some very well kept ales. Consists of bar area on the right with a pool table. Comfortable lounge and dining area, small snug to the rear with dart board. The pub attracts respectable drinkers, the Bank's SunBeam and the Mansfield were both excellent. Will defo call again.
