Old Boots left this review about The Green Dragon

Reading the reviews below I thought this might have been a different pub, it's still an interesting building but the beer range has suffered from the dead hand of a PubCo. Just Doombore and a decent Everards Sunchaser on sale in the lower bar and the upstairs restaurant, plus a "real" cider in the form of Old Rosie.

Soup Dragon left this review about The Green Dragon

A large detached riverside pub and restuarant, which have separate entrances. The building claims to originate in the 16th century and there is a Tudor look (although a little fakey), in the white and beam, brick and stone exterior. There is patio area. The interior has a couple of rooms. The restaurant is upstairs and is in coffee and wood panel, with a wood floor. It has its own serving bar. Downstairs is the Waterside Bar. It is in white and wood panel, white and beam ceiling and a stone flag floor. Old tuns are used as tables and there are some old photographs are on the walls. The service was fine and the clietele in the bar seemed local - we did eat upstairs - the food was fine, but there was nobody else in. Beer; usual stuff with Mr Grundy's Brewery Passchendaele, Milestone Brewery's Fletcher Ale, Loxley Ale and a few others i can no longer read as Mrs Soup accidently subjected the notes to a washing machine experience). I found the Waterside Bar a great place and would happily return to it - only go upstairs if dining though.

The Waterside Bar downstairs is the place to head for an ale in here. It's a lower floor, dark and cosy bar with flagstoned floor, exposed beams and small, raised windows all complemented by heavy, gothic, dark wood furniture. Just the sort of place to disappear into on a cold, rainy day.
Beer available on our visit was: North Yorkshire Hunny Bunny, Cotswold Spring Codger, Milestone American Pale Ale, Classic Dark Mild and Lions Pride. I'm not a huge fan of Milestone beers so for me this wasn't a top selection but my American Pale Ale was more than palatable and 5 handpumps is a solid effort.
Right next to the canal and moorings are available so it's one I'd certainly take advantage of if passing again.

The Waterside Bar is the place to head for real ale and it is now open from noon everyday, with later than 11pm closings on Friday and Saturday. Not all 12 handpumps were working, and the options were dominated by Milestone beers, but nothing wrong with their condition. The interior shows the age of the building with impressive timbers and I like the upturned tuns acting as high tables in a rustic fashion. We didn't try the upstairs lounge eatery bar but that doesn't sound like a schoolboy error.I would pop back for a decent pint.

Have to agree with Rob, this is two pubs in one building. There were only five ales on handpump on our visit. The Milestone & Cathedral John Bull was a good session ale, also enjoyed the Welbeck Abbey Ernest George. The downstairs bar was more to my liking.

This place is almost two pubs in one. Upstairs is a large wooden floored, low beamed room mainly set up with lounge chairs and dining tables. There are 4 handpumps on here serving Milestone & Cathedral (the onsite brewery) beers. It’s a nice enough place so we decided to eat here. I had lamb rump and the other half had a sirloin steak. Both were well cooked but the quality of the meat was very poor. Change your butcher guys, not impressed at all.

Downstairs is the Waterside bar. Flag floors, low beams, barrels to sit around and a really cosy atmosphere. 12 handpumps on the bar here, 2 from Milestone, 2 from Cathedral and 8 ever changing guests. I had several pints here over 2 days and all were excellent. They have a wheel of fortune game during happy hour where you spin the wheel to find out the price you’re going to pay. Good fun. It’s a great little bar.

So we have a great downstairs bar that’s at least an 8 and an upstairs lounge that sells overpriced poor quality food that should be a 5. I think I’ll stick with a 7 overall.

Recently re-opened after a major refurbishment. Good beer, good suroundings and what looks like a very good food menu - Real Ale bar by the waterside, large, comfortable main bar, and restaurant upstairs. Pleasant staff and a relaxed atmosphere.
