Better externally than internally, this is a very old building just off the main drag. There are a series of seperate sections inside, with a rear lounge with it's own bar access and two side sections away from the main bar.You can circumnavigate the bar using the rear corridor. However the decoration was functional at best with little character,a missed opportunity.
The ale range on my visit was "Courage" Directors,Black Sheep Bitter,St Austell Tribute (NBSS 3),Maston's Pedigree ,Old Speckled Hen and a Olde Rosie cider.A rather boring selection of national ale brands and no Locales implies pubco ownership dictating ale choice which wouldn't be enough to warrant a return visit.Could be so much better.

Tried to get a drink in here, but via the vomit man and the Laurel & Hardy barmaids smashing glasses in the dishwasher (rather serving the bar) we aborted. Shame.

One of the town's oldest buildings, this half-timbered house makes an attractive pub and is well worth a visit. The bar serves both front room and back - we stayed in the front room, which has bench seating in booths and a fireplace to the left. There are four hand pumps, which were serving Wychwood Hobgoblin, Caledonian Deuchars IPA, Timothy Taylor Landlord and Westons Old Rosie cider at the time of our visit. I went for the Deuchars, which was in excellent condition and very refreshing on this, the hottest day of the year; my partner had the Landlord, which was pretty boring.
