Mood dance music was playing in the background during a recent early Tuesday evening visit when I was the only customer in the Angler. To the right of the entrance are a couple of small rooms, one of which houses an enormous table. The bar area is found to the left of the entrance where the bar stool lined serving counter runs along the rear facing a short supporting column behind which are a couple of high tables. Banquettes run under the front windows and a log fireplace is found on the right-hand wall. An open kitchen is located in the left of the pub and the rear restaurant and conservatory are accessed via the left side of the bar counter. Upstairs is accommodation.
Unfortunately the ale was lacking due to one hand pump being unused and the Sharps Doom Bar being off on the second. So the choice was premium lager or coffee from the machine on the back bar. I found the service to be friendly, but I was expecting more so don’t plan on returning.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Angler

Interesting old building (fun fact: the former Rutland Maternity Hospital), but now repurposed as something of a gastro-pub. Various seating and dining areas in a slightly split-level arrangement, with a 'theatre kitchen' if standing at the bar. Two real ales on handpump: the 'house' Lucky Hoof Ale (£4.50, but tired) of unclear but apparently local provenance, and Bath Ales Gem.

Oakham’s ‘plub’, done-out in blues and greys. The front bar has a decoration *feature* of tiles that have been pulled off the wall, for some bizarre reason. To the rear is a foody conservatory, served by an open kitchen. Three pumps with nothing on, just a Doom Bar clip turned, so I went for the rather leftfield option (in the circumstances) of Kozel, which tasted a bit odd, my companion’s Estrella was much better. One for completists.

You might have to visit this one late on into the evening as it's a nightclub.
