This has had a chequered history of late and has been through various changes of ownership and been closed as much as it’s open. It’s tucked a little out the way up a narrow hill, although literally just a minute’s walk from the main Hotwells Road, but perhaps that does limit the amount of passing trade it attracts. It has recently been taken over by the guys who run the Small Bar on King Street which is something of a craft ale venue, so hopefully this has now turned the corner and trade will start to pick up, although it was still fairy quiet on a recent Saturday evening visit.

Essentially it’s just all one big room with plenty of tables and chairs, although there are a couple of segregated areas at the rear. Decor wise it’s fairly rustic with a rough wooden floor. It’s had a lick of paint since I was last in, but other than that little has changed. The colour scheme is a mixture of cream and dark brown and there are a few old photo’s dotted around the walls.

Beers on tap were an eclectic mix as might be expected and on this occasion were Wild Beer’s Bibble, USPA and Red 5 from the local Left Handed Giant brewery, Cloudwater and Elemental Ale. A chalkboard behind the bar listed a further four options, although I could not see the pumps for these. The cider meanwhile was Harry’s Medium. Years ago I used to really like this pub so I just hope that with the new ownership trade will pick up and it becomes the success that it deserves to be.

Little pub just off the Hotwells Road, tucked out the way up a hill. Single room layout with dark wooden furnishings, with a few older touches. Three real ales on during my visit – Wickwar Cotswold, BBF No 7 and Bass. Cider was Thatchers Traditional and Stowford Press. Board games available.

A nice little place, would be happy to return if in the vicinity.
