This is a lovely back street pub based on a timber framed cottage, with a very nice thatched roof. The front door appears to have been put out of use, with entrance now being through the car park and a door in the back of the pub which is not immediately apparent, as the building extends quite a long way back but the door is where the extension joins the original cottage. Entering the pub this way for the first time, it is quite easy to mistakenly walk into the serving area of the centrally placed but quite compact bar. There are three sets of two hand pumps, with three beers distributed in mixed pairs, so that to get an idea of the full range on offer requires a small circuit of the rooms. They were Everards Tiger and Golden Hop, plus Brunswick Caramild. In effect there are just two rooms, but the front of the bar, which would have faced the street door, instead now forms a very small drinking corridor - though I've no idea if it actually functions as such, as I was the only customer at the time of my visit.
I received a friendly welcome and, on request, a very welcome half pint of Tiger. I could have drunk a pint, as I had already walked for about an hour from Narborough station, on a route to photograph some of the pubs around here, and the beer was in such good condition that I almost wished I had. But it was going to be a long day, and starting on pints when there are eight pubs in prospect is never a good idea.
I really liked it here, and I got the impression that the pub has been lovingly maintained and restored. I have a lot of respect for Everards, as their beers and pubs always seem to be well looked after.

A lovely-looking Everards house (their first, apparently) which originally dates from the 1500's and comes with tick-box thatched roof (which looks like it needs replacing!). The interior was rather less characterful than I was expecting have taken in the exterior though - relatively banal despite retaining a fairly rambling layout...but that said, it was clean, comfy and in good order (no swearing in the front left bar please!). The full Everards range was on, plus a guest in the form of Oakham White Dwarf and the three I sampled were in good form. The landlord was friendly and kindly gave us individual tasters of the Original and Sunchaser after one of my companions accidentally asked for my two halves in the same pint glass (oh dear)! The pub has plenty of other facilities; snooker room, beer garden, car parking and good quality toilets.
All in all, a good place to visit for a tasty pint in good company but perhaps lacks that little bit 'extra' to get it amongst the best.

thatched everards pub in old enderby - looks like a quality country pub from the exterior - inside a bit basic - bit of a letdown

Very friendly place - a locals' pub that welcomes guests. Well-kept Everards, decent grub, proper bar and lounge, plus outside seating.
