The L-shaped bar counter that runs up the right-hand wall of the Hare & Hounds supports five hand pumps, four of which were in use during a recent Thursday evening visit when there was a decent local crowd in attendance. Salopian’s Aubade, Bank Top Brewery’s Flat Cap, Bateman’s Hooker and Mallinsons Brewing’s Mosiac were the cask options, the latter being on good form. At the end of the bar at the rear is a dartboard. Up the left-hand side of the pub is a seating area with a fireplace and a large television on the rear wall that was off in favour of some background music. I noticed that the red carpet was very vibrant, so mentioned this to the friendly governor, yes I am that interesting! He was actually quite chuffed that a stranger had come into the pub and noticed. I liked it in here, this was by far my favourite pub in Hindley.

well I thought this was a great little pub in a surprising location. Four ales on and most of the regulars were drinking them. Well worthy of its GBG entry on this evidence as all that we tried were in good condition. Very friendly landlord, dog and locals, simple but charming interior.

Straightforward trad local set over two areas with the footy showing to a half-interested audience. GBG’23 listed, hence my random visit, jumping off the train to Bolton. Four cask on over five pumps which made me nervous, especially so as I clocked no other cask drinkers near the bar and inevitably my choice of Wigan Brewhouse Plum Porter was first out for a quite while (NBSS 2). Feels like a GBG pump-count entry to me, it’d be fairly unremarkable otherwise.

2022 Good Beer Guide Entry and the only one in town, so head there for quality beer.

Sunday lunch time and the expected collection of (male) locals, all engaged in various degrees of lively conversation. Friendly staff. Four real ales on and the Ossett Brewery Amarillo was in such good condition, I had two.

Offered access to the free buffet, set up in the 2nd of two open plan rooms.

Lovely pub.

This is a very neat little pub with a lounge area to the left and more open space to the right including a dartboard and a jukebox. There's a beer garden to the rear and a very friendly, jack russell type, pub dog. Four handpumps on the bar serving ever changing guest beers. My pint of Irving Frigate was in good nick. It's a good little pub is this.

Lovely pub that features in the 2019 Good Beer Guide. Friendly and good beer choice. No problems with our Listers American Pale Ale and Intrepid New World Amber.
