Brainy Pool left this review about The Balcarres Arms

I thought a popular Marstons pub in a nice village near Haigh Hall would be a safe bet for a good pint. so I was a bit taken aback to see none of the 4 handpulls in action on a Sunday afternoon. It really is a picturesque pub but inside is more basic than you might expect, simple community pub with games and food. All one room now though it still feels fairly “old”. meals are from a laminated chain menu and kids were sitting on the pool table, it feels like another pub that needs to break from Marstons ASAP.

The Balcarres Arms is an open plan pub serving food daily and has 4 cask beers on the go(The pint of Howling Wolf was spot on).The pub is quite well laid out with comfy seating,a couple of smart brick fireplaces and an outside drinking area and beer garden. On the walls numerous photos and prints show the pub and surrounding areas in times gone by including a photo of the Haigh Brewery which was a 5 storey building that stood directly behind the pub.
