Will Larter left this review about The Cotton House
A smart building with some interesting features, situated by the small river in what is inevitably the lowest part of the village. Inside there are lots of bare stone walls and rough floorboards, though one room has the floorboards on the ceiling and slate flags on the floor. There were plenty of staff, and they probably expected me to have something to eat, but did their best not to look shocked when I asked if it was ok to have just a beer. There were even a couple of stools at the counter, and I was served my pint of Squawk Otis Pale (the only real ale available - there's only one hand pump) at one of them. This is pale in the modern sense of looking as well as tasting like lemon juice, and I soon wished I had just asked for a half. Paying £4.10 for a pint in deepest, darkest Lancashire was also a bit of a shock. Definitely not my sort of pub, but there are presumably enough people in the nearby small towns and villages to keep them ticking over.
