Blue Scrumpy left this review about Victoria Arms

We thought we'd hit the depths when visiting this pub as part of our crawl of Wokingham and the surrounding area. It later turned out that we hadn't quite, but we were certainly close!

The outside looked appealing and there were a couple of lager drinkers sat on one of the pavement tables. Inside, there was just one rather scruffy looking character. He turned out to be the landlord/barman and was mending a drum!

Courage Best was the real ale, which we both avoided. The single small room was fairly basic, with a tiny alcove containing a table adjacent to the bar. A couple arrived and sat there, whilst another guy seemed to be a little upset that we were sat at his table. The Ryder Cup was showing on the TV.

This place probably needs more atmosphere to make a visit enjoyable, but it was very much lacking during our visit.

Quinno _ left this review about Victoria Arms

Visited in hope rather than expectation, but unfortunately hope has well and truly fled. Freezing cold, dilapidated fixtures and fittings, no charm, no warmth…and no customers. Two cask on; Doom Bar and a lacklustre Timothy Taylor Landlord. This place is dying and surely it can only be a matter of time before the last rites.

Popped in last night and found the town’s other LocAle accredited pub not selling any! Three ales on - Pride, Doom Bar, Deuchars. My Deuchars wasn’t up to much. The barman realised I was some ale-nerd type and I got free samples of the others (which were better but not exactly earth-shattering). To be fair, there were no other customers and it turns out that the guy behind the bar was actually the new manager as of last week (late of the Norreys Barn). There hasn’t been much change to the fairly bland interior. Two sports TVs, dart board (in its own little area which is a nice touch) and no garden. Hot food was slated to be returning soon, including a tall tale as to Courage offering a substantial amount of money for the landlord’s homemade ribs recipe. Good luck to the new fella but in a town full of pubs this will have to find a USP pretty quickly if it isn’t to end up being flogged as a house by Admiral in two years’ time. Rated 5

A single-roomed boozer that underwent extensive upgrading a few years back in an attempt to rid itself of the image of being a rough pub - which ended up working fairly well. The interior is now a classic combo of cream and coffee shades with a laminated floor. It’s still a drinkers pub though and sports a couple of reasonably-priced real ales which are usually in decent condition. Serves food and has big screens for the sport. Not bad. Rated 6

Moby Duck left this review about Victoria Arms

Another Wokingham pub that has probably seen its heyday a good while ago.A single Room divided by a central chimney breast with a real fire open to both sides. mixed seating high and low. There was a couple of TV screens with football on, live music was advertised.Three Handpumps with two clipped, Doom Bar and T.T.Landlord, I of course ordered the Landlord which when poured was in fact clear water, the barman said that dosn't look right and I agreed and had to settle for a dreaded Doom Bar.
Could do better.
