Being a sales rep who is away from home a lot, I was staying in the Premier Inn Milnow. And as I like to venture out I stumbled on a local pub called the Slip Inn....friendly local people & the beer (Taddys) was a great brew!.....normally I just have a couple of pints, but I ended up in there a few hrs putting the world to rights with some great local blokes & had 5 pints!......can't wait until I am staying in Milnrow again, felt like home. Called in for the first time in a few years the other Friday at about 8:30. It was pretty busy in all the rooms, but they are all pretty small so they don't take much filling. There was a real fire going in one of the rooms. This is a Sam Smiths house so there's only Old Brewery Bitter for us real ale drinkers, but my pint was fine, if a bit cold. I didn't like this pub very much when I used to work in Milnrow and I can't say that my opinion has changed with this visit. However, it's a decent community local and of course being Sams it's very cheap.

A new Landlady took over earlier this month and standards have slipped badly. Effing and geffing is allowed to go unchecked in the lounge bar, so much so that some regulars have now taken their custom elsewhere. The general cleanliness has also seen a drop in standards. The Landlady is very young and seems to have little knowledge or experience in Pub management - She certainly can't keep the foul mouthed element in check but, there again, maybe she accepts that type of behaviour as normal!

This pub serves one of the best pints of Samuel Smiths Lager in the area. Always cold, crystal clear and lively as a lager should be. It was refurbished last year (2010) and new fireplaces were installed but, there seems to be a reluctance to light them over the last couple of months. Obviously there is no need to have heating on warm days but on many a recent evening I have entered the pub only to find customers having to keep their top coats on. I did ask on one occassion for either a fire or the central heating to be put on but to no avail. So now,on cold evenings if the Slip Inn has'nt any heating on I go to either the "Top Bird" or "Bottom Bird" in Newhey. These are both Samuel Smith Pubs but, unlike the "Slip Inn", they ensure their premises and customers are kept warm and comfortable.
One big improvement is that a recent change in management has resulted in a marked decrease in bad language. So apart from the recent reluctance to put on any form of heating on cold evenings, this pub is a pleasant place to have a drink as the beer is kept in tip top condition and the regulars are a friendly and sociable bunch.
