A Greene King "Meal Deal" kind of place that attracts young families with screaming kids, well they've got to go somwhere I suppose.Reasonably nice cottagey looking from the outside but open-plan and quite grubby inside, tape covering up a tear in the threadbare carpet etc. Seems to be down to seven handpumps now, four beers were on, GK IPA, Abbott and Old Specled Hen along with T.T. Landlord(NBSS 2.5), a couple of clips tagged with coming soon were 6X and Tribute. Nothing here to entice me back other than maybe a cheap breakfast.

A barely credible 10 on during our Friday afternoon visit, but the Skinners Cornish Knocker was in good nick and there was a decent range of strengths and styles. There’s been a slight refurb inside but otherwise much the same as it was three years back – corporate, but verging on the enjoyable…

A massive refurb here since my last visit many years back and it’s a bit corporatised but quite well done really. Nice rear garden. Enjoyable, laid-back atmosphere inside. A plethora of pumps but less ales than expected; Waddies 6X, Hop Back World Hop Medley, GK IPA x2, GK Ale Fresco, and GK XX Mild. I obviously plumped for the lesser-spotted XX Mild and it was a good drop. Desmond moaned that his lemonade was overloaded with ice and to be fair it looked like an Eskimo had served it. Not bad, certainly improved. 6.5

Not overly-inspiring Greene King foody pub. Pretty spacious inside, it looks like it was only refurbed a short while back but the décor is getting pretty shabby and it needs a lick of paint. Bizarrely it only sells one GK brew (IPA) along with a guest (Batemans XXXB) in very average condition. Does stock a lot of different fizzies, which I guess is where they get a lot of custom from...? Service this afternoon didn't strike me as being particularly on-the-ball, a lot of faffing. Food menu contained most of the usual suspect nouveau pub-grub that would appeal to most and the prices are reasonable for the area. TV's dotted around showing the cricket. Perhaps somewhere to take Aunty for an afternoon but I wouldn't bother, myself. Rated 4
