Has recently been done-up by Enterprise as part of their ‘Craft Union’ shenanigans. In this case it was worth doing as the place seems far nicer and a lot more welcoming. However the ‘craft’ part of Craft Union fell on its arse at the bar, which only had Doom Bar and Tim Taylor Landlord as cask ales, the latter of which was flat and unappetizing though perhaps it was the fag-end of the barrel. The new landlady gave some spiel about running a pub in north Wales previously (Conwy?) which had a load of ale on and won CAMRA awards. If that’s correct, she needs to try and work that here PDQ.

This has had an internal makeover since its Square Bar days (see review below). It’s now is a stripped-back bare-boarded and lightly painted affair which looks scruffy round the edges. What looks like some original timber beams had a small collection of pump clips attached. Three pumps but only TT Golden Best on (£1.75 a half) which was a bit warm but generally ok. No sign of LocAle despite being accredited in the local CAMRA mag. Only a small handful of customers in watching some godforsaken Scottish footy game (Partick v Hibs) on the big screens (why have it on two with only four people watching?). Pub also offers free Wi-fi and darts. Not one I’d be looking to head back to in a hurry. Rated 5

January 2006 [as Square Bar incarnation]
Absolutely shocking. Served me a pint of tomato juice masquerading as London Pride. When I told them (politely) that it was off, and could I have a different drink please, the barman held it up to the light and said "what's wrong with it? It looks alright to me!" then proceeded to huff and puff over pouring me a Guinness. Then failed to change the barrel, turn the clip or take away the pint of ming, which was left on the bar, despite there being only seven other people in the place. And it was stupidly expensive to boot. Bars like this shouldn't be allowed a licence to sell real ale as they are obviously too thick to know how to care for it and add to the perception held by many that ale from a pump tastes vile. Avoid this place if you care for your guts. Rated 1

Three pumps - two turned round. The Hogsback Tea looked clearer than at the Crispin, had less of a head and tasted worse.

Not really a lot to recommend this place with.

What looks like something decent pub-wise outside, its rather basic and devoid of much character once inside.
one elongated room with standard seating around the periphery, theres little in the way of internal decor. There are three TV screens and live football was on.Three Handpumps on the bar, dissapointingly only one in action with Hogsback TEA.
