I agree with Al Bundy below, I also thought this was a pleasant enough pub. I popped in for a quick pint, whilst Mrs A visited Booths supermarket over the road. The young barman was very enthusiastic and told me he wanted to get to know about cask beer. I went for the Hawkshead Bitter which was fine and whilst I was sat at the bar he was putting on Doom Bar on handpump. Seeing that it was fresh on and I hadn't tried it for a long time, I decided to give it a go and it wasn't that bad. The third ale on handpump was Robinsons Dizzy Blonde.

A pleasant enough place apparently next to where an old railway line used to be. The pub is open plan and L-shaped. To the left is a pool table. 4 handpumps with Castle Rock Harvest Pale, Bombardier and Jennings Cumberland on today. To the rear is a beer garden. Its probably worth a visit.

I had my 60th Birthday Party / Meal at the Towneley Arms yesterday. It was absolutely fantastic. The 20 of us were all greeted warmly and the table had been laid beautifully,Birthday banners also had been put up. ( the banners were a lovely thought an a nice surprise. )
The chosen menu of hotpot and curry was cooked and presented hot, on time and to perfection. The waitress service was attentive, but not intrusive and performed with courteousness and with a smile. Many thanks to Charlotte, the Chef and all the staff for making my party so very enjoyable. Everyone present, some of whom hadn't been in the Towneley Arms before commented that the food was excellent and they would certainly be visiting again! From start to finish the meal and the atmosphere were delightful.
Thanks Charlotte. Carol Grant, on behalf of Alan Grant.
