Real Ale Ray left this review about Saracens Head

I called in here last Tuesday afternoon, so the pub was rather quiet, which gave a chance for a wander around and see how big the pub actually is.
The interior is modern, tastefully finished and comfortable. The bar counter was black granite with a sage coloured painted timber bar front, along with a red brick foot rest along the bottom. This is a food led pub with the dining area predominately towards the rear. Two handpumps with a Wainwright clip turned back and the other serving Cumbrian Ales Loweswater Gold, which was in great shape and passed the three pint mark with me.

Situated alongside the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, this building has been greatly extended to the rear and side ,and underwent a very substantial and expensive refurb around four years ago.
The main entrance is from the car park with to the right a low ceiling with spotlights around the wooden topped bar .The area around the bar is for drinkers and included a high table and chairs and a terrestrial flat screen which will show live sport on request. There are sofas and poofs around the side of the bar,and a small banquette past the real fire chimney breast with fabric coverings and a collection of cushions. An upmarket area but one where locals do gather to sup and chat. There were four handpumps, one unused the other serving Nethergate Lightening,Thwaites Wainright and Wadsworth Red,White and Brew in OK condition.
However the main raison d'etre is dining and there is a large restaurant area at the rear with views through picture windows over the canal together with a discreet area off the drinking area where you can also dine. Some may describe the food as gastro but this can be a derogatory term and I would prefer to describe my meal as high quality restaurant standard. It's pricey but there is a seasonal menu with two courses for £15.50 ,three courses £18 which proved good value given the quality.
It may not be a pub for a heavy ale session but if you want a great meal in upmarket surrounding this come highly recommended by me.
