Will Larter left this review about Yorkshire Taps

I don't know what prompted the change of name - I always asumed the presence of a Yorkshire House in Lancaster was down to neither dubious loyalty nor some sort of death wish, but because of its proximity to the railway that used to run to Leeds from here before being Beechingised. It was not one of my regular haunts when I used to live in Lancaster, and I couldn't be sure that I remembered it well enough after more than three decades to say that it is unchanged, though it certainly seems authentically old and time-worn. The bar counter is against the back wall to the right and sports five hand pumps. Two of these were dispensing fruit ciders, the other three real ales. Formerly a two or possibly three roomed layout, there's a distinction now only in the carpeted floor on the right and bare boards to the left, with what must have been a tiled corridor now lacking any walls and just consisting of tiles. Low key, scruffy and homely: if I lived in Lancaster now I reckon I would be coming here more often.

I thought this place was fine. it's a bit tatty but a proper, friendly pub and it was busy with a mostly young crowd. regular rock music in the room upstairs.

This is a stone built end of terrace pub that I can't believe has always sported this name although couldn't find any previous one.
Inside it's an open plan wooden floored room with a dart board, jukebox and a bar football table. I really can't remember when I last saw a set of "rods" in a pub! It bills itself as a live music venue and couldn't have been open for long as it only opens at 19:00 apart from Saturday.
It was quiet on my Friday mid evening visit although a couple of student types were giving the bar football table a go.
There were five hand pumps where I noted a cider, Black Sheep Bitter and another mainstream beer but the Landlord told me he was just putting on Dancing Duck Abduction. I waited for this and it was excellent at somewhere around or just over the £3.00 mark.
I didn't think this was a dive at all, does everywhere have to be spotlessly clean and recently refurbished? It was never like that when I first started going to pubs. I much preferred it to the trendy Borough or the Sun Hotel.

Unassuming pub that is gaining a reputation as good live music venue in its upstairs room. Certainly the quality of jukebox on my Sunday afternoon visit was very good though it was very quiet – I guess this is a place that relies on students and I was in there outside of term-time. The interior is a bit of a dive (what music venue isn’t?) and is a bit dark with pretty basic décor. However there are four excellently-kept and interesting ales on at the bar along with a real cider. It’s got a late licence so a good place to finish up in LA1. Worthwhile.
