Will Larter left this review about Rose & Crown Hotel

The Rose & Crown's outward appearance suggests a touch of history, atmosphere and class, but the reality is not quite the same. Entrance is via the archway on the left, and the large bar area is in the rear of the building, with the look of having been converted from other uses (perhaps a stable or garage). There are four hand pumps, with three Thwaites beers available. My half of the Original Bitter was served cold and with a tight head, but this only served to initially disguise its age and tiredness, which gradually became more apparent. What a shame. A small group of middle aged regulars were clustered around the bar, drinking anything but real ale. I moved away to the front room, which has a bow window looking out onto the street, with a rather incongruous pool table, and table football too. Maybe it gets lively here at weekends and evenings, but late on a midweek afternoon there was no atmosphere, spark or joy to be found here.

Pretty standard Thwaites pub. You have to enter via and archway to the side of the pub. Once in its a fairly standard boozer. To your right is a raised pool table area and the bar is to your left. 4 handpumps but only 2 on. Both serving Thwaites beers.
