Brainy Pool left this review about New Inn

A wonderful unspoilt multi roomed pub. A few keg taps on display in the snug but the main bar is a shrine for a fine selection of ales. Blueberry bitter was on top form. Shame the two lads behind the bar were very much in the wrong job and the rest of the punters were sat outside at the front on a sunny afternoon, otherwise a perfect pub.

Old Boots left this review about New Inn

A splendid old fashioned multi room pub opposite the Castle. The two front rooms are just sitting rooms with the counter in a larger back room, all in more or less Victorian style. It’s local brews mainly on the nine pulls, especially from Moorhouses. There’s a narrow long beer garden at the back. Certainly a don’t miss when in Clitheroe.

I called in here after a visit to the Bowland Brewery Beer Hall nearby (a beer exhibition rather than a pub), so this was bound to feel more pub-like. But what an excellent pub it is, the traditional multi-roomed layout making for small, enclosed spaces where people are close together and conversation often ensues. The area by the bar is a little like a drinking corridor, and I was soon made to feel right at home. There are 10 hand pumps on the bar, with four from Moorhouses, two from Coach House and one each from Ilkley, Prospect, Copper Dragon and Goose Eye. I went for the Coach House Farriers and Moorhouse Premier, both of which were in excellent condition. I managed to tear myself away to catch my train - what a pity Clitheroe is such a long way from home.

According to WhatPub this is a Thwaites pub, though I am not convinced as there is no signage with Thwaites branding to be seen (unusual for them) and none of their ales were on at the bar (also odd). I counted eight hand pulls at the bar with nothing mainstream spotted, at the time of my visit breweries included Elland, Prospect and Reedley Hallows. My Griffin IPA by Reedley Hallows was £1.50 for a half.

This is a very traditional feeling multi room pub which was quite busy inside on a Tuesday lunch time. I made the most of the lovely weather and sat in the rear beer garden which is a nice space. It has some kind of gazebo to one side which I assume may be used as a smoking shelter during less pleasant weather, but who knows? There are also a few picnic tables to the front of the pub.

A pleasant friendly multi-roomed pub. There are 2 small rooms left and right as you enter and beyond these is the bar area. Beyond these is a rear room. 11 handpumps on the bar with beers from Bowland, Coach House, Reedly Hallows, Beer Monkey and another one I've forgotten. Worth a visit.

Blessed with a fine location in the shadow of Clitheroe Castle, the New Inn is a classic traditional pub with a multiple room layout. Entering through attractive stained glass doors bearing the pub's name, you find yourself in a corridor from which you can access several distinctly different rooms. To the left there is a compact front bar with a serving hatch on the rear wall and a good amount of banquette seating around the bare boarded room. This struck me as a nice place to relax over a pint whilst still benefitting from some of the atmosphere generated in the public bar to the rear of the pub. This is a popular room with limited seating opposite the main servery which runs down the left hand wall. The right hand side of the pub has two quieter lounges, comfier than the other rooms, but a little staid and notably shunned by most customers. The front lounge is bare boarded with long banquettes around the perimeter, a fireplace on the end wall and decorated with old photos from around town. The rear lounge is similarly furnished and also has a fireplace which would be welcome in winter months.
The ale range was wider than any I found in Clitheroe and seemed to focus on two breweries - Moorhouse and Coach House. The crowd in the main bar meant that I couldn't make out all of the pump clips, but I did note Coach House Gunpowder Mild, Postlethwaites, Farrier's Bitter and Blueberry Classic Bitter, Moorhouse Bitter, Blonde Witch and Pride of Pendle. I rather rashly opted for the Gunpowder Mild, which I quickly remembered having tried before and not enjoyed, and unfortunately the same was the case this time, although there was nothing wrong with the conditioning.
I was only able to make a flying visit here as I had very little time before I had to catch a bus back to Blackburn, but I left with the impression of a lively and popular pub which should appeal to the traditionalist and be a draw for anyone seeking good beer. You will do well to find a better pub in town.

Exellent traditional pub close to Clitheroe castle. Multi roomed interior with small central bar and cosy lounge. Good choice of real ales.
