This pub that's hidden away from the main drag is just about worth a visit. Multi-roomed and very red. There were 4 handpulls on and could possibly be more as I only went in the room to the right. Not great and as it was a quick visit it was passable. I wouldn't particularly return but I wouldn't dissuade anyone from going.

Situated just outside the town centre, a short walk from the castle, the Horseshoe is a large, community focussed pub with a few interesting features. You enter into a slightly confusing corridor with lots of doors, windows and mirrors which can leave you a bit disorientated at first and unsure which way to turn. The two mirrored doors to the left are actually the toilets, so first time visitors need use the doors at the far end or right hand side to access the pub itself. The right hand door takes you into the bar, where the servery is tucked away in the rear corner. It's quite an attractive bar, with a stained glass 'Horseshoe' bar back and canopy. A row of trophies run above the counter and there are pump clips dotted around as testament to the owners' commitment to providing good ale. The bar serves a bare boarded room with padded button backed banquettes and standard chairs running around most sides. There are some dark half panelled walls and a few stained glass dividing screens which give the place a traditional feel, although I don't think it would be unfair to say that the place could still do with a bit of work to get it feeling nice and cosy. Décor is mostly in the form of old photos of the pub and the town, whilst TV screens (all off on my visit) are mounted around the room ready to show the next sporting fixture. There is a juke box on one wall, with some real oldies playing to a handful of locals on my visit and a dartboard hangs in the far corner. The room to the left of the bar houses a pool table, but it seemed a bit bare and not really suited for relaxing in.
I was afforded a very warm welcome from the jovial landlady and having selected an ale, I was initially disappointed to see the pump splutter away as the last dregs pulled through. However, the landlady gave me the option to wait whilst she replaced it with another beer of the same style, or try a sample of one of the other beers. I decided to try the Bowland Sawley Tempted, apparently their best seller, and ended up having a pint which was in good shape. The other options were Deuchars IPA, Salamander Queen's Ransom and a dark beer which I failed to note.
I didn't have any real expectations for this place but came away with a very favourable impression. There is a friendly, welcoming vibe, good beer and a traditional feel which combined to make this a pleasurable visit and I'd be happy to pop in again if I were ever back in Clitheroe.

Freindly local close to Clitheroe town centre and a short walk from the Castle. One main room with a mix of seating, plus a games room. Serves real ales from local breweries. Well looked after. Worth a visit.
