Brainy Pool left this review about New Charles Dickens

Newly refurbished as a modern sports bar. Two handpumps with no beer on them. Not much else to say about it really, it offers no reason for me to revisit as I would rather watch a game across the road with a decent pint.

One roomed lounge with 2 raised areas and a small beer patio at the back. Two booths and a piano to the left of the pub and a pool table to the rear. Some great soul music playing at a sensible volume. 5 handpumps on the bar, but only 3 badged on my Friday, early evening visit. One from their own brewery Mayflower plus one from Schoolhouse amd Tetleys Bitter. Both the Mayflower & Schoolhouse beers were in good nick. It's a very pleasant pub.

Real Ale Ray left this review about Dochertys

Mayflower Brewery was established in 2001 and was brewed in Standish, making it the first Wigan based brewery for 30 years. It's now Wigan's longest running micro brewery and has been relocated to Dochertys. Regular brewing commenced in early 2016 and the brand new 5 barrel plant is up and running in Dochertys disused kitchen.
We called in last Friday, where we were pleased to see a notice on the door advertising the re-launch of the brewery. As a result, the beers were priced at £2 a pint and £1 for a half. They also had a range of Tapas on the bar and visitors were welcome to help themselves.
We went for their new beer, which hadn't been named yet and were invited to write out a suggestion. This beer was exceptionally palatable and would have easily sank a few more. We also tried their Douglas Valley and Lancashire Stout, both were outstanding.
This is a large pub with lots of comfortable drinking areas and drinkers are mostly beer led. This pub is well worth a nine and a half.

Clean, pleasant and bright. 3 real ales on with room for 2 more so I'm sure if you strokey-beards ask nicely he might get more.
