Brainy Pool left this review about The Flat Iron

comfortable town centre pub that should please real ale fans and football watchers. Five ales on plus a ‘gingerbread cider’. As a pub it has been relentlessly modernised but it is quite nicely done, the TVs are huge and numerous though. Classic pop music at a reasonable volume and pleasant service. It’s a nice place and definitely one to fit on your crawl around Chorley.

Blue Scrumpy left this review about The Flat Iron

The Flat Iron used to be called the Market Tavern when it was last in the Good Beer Guide in 2003 and it sits unsurprisingly next to the town's market.

As one of the original pubs in the 1974 Good Beer Guide, I was wondering why it hadn't been in since 2003, especially when seeing the impressive beer range on entry - Worsthorne Red Man, Twisted Wheel Sunday Sessions & Technicolour Beat & Northern Whisper Blimey.

The barman seemed quite friendly and chatty and guessed why we were in Chorley (for the football). We also received a CAMRA discount for my half of Worsthorne Red Man. As we left the bar, he revealed that he was a red.

It soon became a little more apparent why the pub is no longer in the Good Beer Guide, as the Red Man was not in the best condition at all. In fact, it was the worst beer I tried all day. So, a good range of beers, but not kept well (unless this was an exception, of course). They appear to have stopped selling real cider.

The pub itself is a typical bustling town centre local, with plenty of conversation, sports TVs and a few tables outside on the pavement at the front.

Now called The Flat Iron and much improved. Open plan, clean and bright. There are now up to 5 real ales available, mostly from local breweries a and real cider is also available. Much better than its previous incarnation and worth a visit.

Could do with a good clean. Had one handpumps with the clip turned around. Pretty poor but all town centres have this kind of place.

Chorley Phantom Drinker left this review about The Market Tavern

Ok if you like loud Karaoke poor beer and drunk people. Had a pint of fizzy bitter which reminded me I shouldnt waste my money on landlords who cant be bothered to sell a real beer. Leave it to the young ones who cant sing and spend my money somewhere else. Glad it only opens at weekends. And thats too much. Poor excuse for a pub
