Real Ale Ray left this review about The Old White Lion

I bet the landlord gets fed up of people walking in here and asking for cask ale, as we did. As expected there was none to be found. Still am glad we popped in for a nose as the pub has a listed Historical Interior. The main features was the revolving door entrance, the spectacular textured patterned ceiling, along with the fireplace in the side lounge and the lead light windows. My rating here at seven is for the interior alone.

Unusually the main entrance to this pub has a revolving door. Inside it's a roughly square room with a high ceiling and the bar on the left. The room is mostly carpeted and there is a jukebox. I didn't notice any other rooms.
The two hand pumps were both blank on my Friday afternoon visit so I ended up with a keg pint of "Flowers" (£2.20) which was cold insipid rubbish.
Given the lack of real ale this one gets a low score.

A really nice traditional pub. A large spacious main lounge as you enter. Two separate rooms at the rear one a pool room and the the other the'Oak Room' which sadly was closed this afternoon. One real ale available. I really liked this pub.

A lovely old building that has been made into a one-room pub at some time, with a massive RSJ holding it all together. The stained glass window to the rear and the old-fashioned wall paper try to suggest that the present incarnation is older than it (probably) is, but it's a cleverly executed piece of subterfuge, if that's what it is. The bar counter is to the left, and features two hand pumps. At the time of my visit there was just Jennings Cumberland Ale and another beer in the process of being pulled through. I went for the keg/smooth Bass Mild, which wasn't at all bad, if a little on the cold side. It was fairly quiet in here on a Tuesday evening. I'd call again and hope to find something a little more interesting on the hand pumps next time.

Now has a handpump serving changing Deeply Vale ales, usually only at weekend though.

I walked through the door of this pub late on a Friday afternoon and was amazed to find it absolutely packed. There was a female singer on who had started at 4 and was wowing the crowd of older clientele, she was a decent singer as well. I significantly lowered the average age when I walked in. As I waited at the bar she launched into a medley from the 1950s and a dozen OAPs got up to dance. The pub was so busy that it was difficult to get a proper look aound, but there's a pool table at the rear and some nice stained glass around the pub. Sadly the beer is only keg, although it was very cheap. This pub has found a niche market and exploited it very well. Good luck to them. I doubt that I'll be calling in again, but they won't miss me. :-))
