Steve C left this review about The York

I approached the York late afternoon on a recent Tuesday when there were a couple of down-and-outs snogging around the entrance, so I decided to walk past. Fast forward a few hours and they had gone, so I decided to make this my last pub of the crawl. There’s a U-shaped bar counter on the rear wall that supports standard keg, the hand pumps were all unused. On the rear wall to the left of the counter is a dartboard, and to the right is a pool table that was being used by a friendly bunch of young lads. In the front right is some raised seating and a table football is found front left where doors open onto the passing street. There was some background music coming from the jukebox. This pub is handily located just across the road from the railway station, but alas it doesn’t warrant a revisit.

Brainy Pool left this review about The York

this is a really basic pub with a basic atmosphere. it’s a typical example of a Marstons local boozer left to decline sadly. No real ale anymore. shame because it’s the closest to the station.

Old Boots left this review about The York

A traditional single room pub, traditionally furnished and close to the station. The counter is at the back and dispenses beers from the Marstons stable, one from Ringwood and a well kept one from Wychwood on this occasion, the two other pumps had nothing on. There's an alcove at the front but it's lined with mirrors which was a bit off-putting for an ugly bloke like me, otherwise a comfortable pub if a little basic and masculine. The lights, speakers and mirror ball suggests they have discos and/or karaoke on a regular basis. Pool and darts are also played here as well as being equipped with the usual screen and machines.

ROB Camra left this review about The York Hotel

Small one roomed pub with 3 distinct areas. There's a pool room to the left as you enter and a seating area to the far right. The main bar area is mainly standing and there's also a bandit and a quiz machine. The friendly barstaff served me quickly and efficiently and even shouted goodbye when I left. 4 handpumps on the bar, but only one on. This was Wychwood Cherry Picker and was not very good. At the time I thought it may have been the beer as I'm not a great fan of cherry beers but I've had the beer since in a GBG listed pub and it was much better. It's a decent little pub to call in for one after an hour on the train as I did.

I first went in the York Hotel on 27 August 1983.
This was a Burtonwood tied house that i quite liked inside.
