Well described by Steve below the only change was that there were two cask ales available. This was the first pub that I tried to visit after walking down from the train station. It was so busy at bout 3 p.m. that I could hardly get through the door nevermind get to the bar. After a crawl through the town I finished off back here when it was a bit quieter. As it was at the end of my crawl and the alcohol was beginning to take effect I just had a half of a beer from Wily Fox which was in good nick. I'd be happy to call in again.

The Wheatsheaf has been refurbished at some point over the last five years because it is now a clean and tidy open plan pub. To the right of the entrance is a small tile floored area with brown banquettes and a fireplace with burner on the right-hand wall. There are also a couple of televisions in here for showing live football, in fact televisions are located throughout the pub. During my recent early Tuesday evening visit, before the football had started, these were all muted in favour of some low and chilled background music. Green banquettes run under the front window to the bar counter that runs up the left-hand wall. This is surrounded by floor tiles, the rest of the pub from the door to the fireplace with burner on the rear wall is carpeted. This carpeted area has high tables and stools at the front and some more green banquette seating at the rear. The bar counter is stocked with standard and premium keg, but unfortunately there was no real ale because one hand pump was unused and the other two were reversed clipped, one of those being Wainwright. I though this was a very friendly pub, and the landlady was very professional in removing the local pisshead as he tried to get served after getting kicked out of the White Lion. It’s a shame that cask was unavailable, but I still liked it in here and I think it would be my pub of choice if I found myself in the area again.

A rather tired looking 3 roomed pub. There is a small room to your right on entering with a rear room housing a pool table. The main room is sort of partitioned off into 3 areas. The place is, to be honest, in dire need of a refurb. That said it was friendly enough on this Monday afternoon visit. One handpump on the bar dispensing Bank Top Old Slapper.
