We made two visits to the Howcroft on our visit to Bolton this weekend, the pub is a bit out of the way, but we had picked it up from the review on this site, and some locals pointed us in the right direction, As the previous reviewer noted, it is quiet and welcoming. Several small rooms with a larger room to the back and a bowling green. We were initially attracted by the claim of real ales, on our visit these were Bank Top beers, this being the local brewery. On the Saturday afternoon, our first visit, I noticed their cheap and cheerful pub menu, General pub fayre with the promise of a home made lasagne, all retailing at under four pounds, with jacket potatoes, snacks and a children's menu, also a range of vegetarian options, various burgers, nuggets and bakes, with a 'chicken style' curry and a cannelloni.Meals finished at 2pm, the landlady would have been willing to make us some food despite this, but we were not ready to eat just then. We made a return trip on Monday lunch time, where I sampled the spinach cannelloni, and my husband the meat and potato pie. This place is well worth a visit if you are in the area, Both our visits were made in the day time, but it seems a quiet and friendly estate pub, no doubt plenty of locals to keep you company.

A Hidden Gem near the centre of Bolton, Quiet Secluded with a walled Bowling green(Bowls Available for a Bash).Good Drinkers Pub yet not intimidating to single people or women as there are 4 different rooms, snug tap conservatory and games room. Complimentary Newspapers, Games and great company with wood floorboards in places, coal fires and lancashire bar, Always someone to chat to. Doesnt get rowdies in. Holds probably the biggest beer festival in the North in aid of the Bolton Lads & Girls Club with over 200 Ales!!!(approx Oct 14th but check it out )
If you went to one Pub in Bolton then check it out, clientelle are a mix of Bar Proppers to Bank Managers, We all Know a good pub when we see one!
