Still a very cosy traditional pub with two sides. Five handpumps in total, I went straight for the Belgian Blue which was in excellent nick despite initially coming out looking like cherryade! It was a very tranquil half an hour, but it’s a bit worrying that just me and a few old gents were sat in the place at 2pm on a Saturday. It deserves better. Although the gents really do need a good clean.

The Hen & Chickens has a central U-shaped bar counter that faces rearwards from its position between the left and right entrances. There’s a strip of seating up the left wall and more to the right. Raised seating can be found at the rear where there’s also a pool table. There is a jukebox that was playing some decent 80s tunes, which may have been put on by one of the friendly locals who was very chatty on the topic of music. One of the hand pumps was unused and Lilley’s Bee Sting Cider was off, so the available cask was Black Sheep alongside Bootleg Brewing’s Fool’s Gold and Chorlton Pale. Standard keg was also available. This is a decent enough place in an area that has very little going for it pub wise.

One of two on opposite sides of the road and the better one by far. 6 handpumps on the bar and its a nice enough pub. A U-shaped interior splits the pub and the area to the right is split again into two areas. Pool table to the rear. A nice pub.

A neatly decorated two roomer, still with it's central bar. The right hand side is partially set up for dining now and there's a raised seating area to the left. There are still 5 handpumps, but only 3 on all serving Reedley Hallows beers. There's a 50p per pint CAMRA discount which brought the price down to a very reasonable £2.50 per pint. The pint I had was in very good nick, it's much improved since my last visit.

The last time I called in this pub was after the Bolton Beer Festival a couple of years ago. At the time I couldn't understand how a pub whose beer was so average could get into the GBG. It's still in the GBG2011 and I still don't know why as my pint of Tetleys Dark Mild was poor. There are 5 handpumps selling Tetley Bitter & Mild plus 3 "guests" which were the stunningly boring Robbies Unicorn, Jennings Cumberland and Bombardier. It's a pleasant looking pub with an island bar and 2 rooms, one of which looks to be used mainly for dining during food service times. Sadly as mentioned the beer quality was very poor. I don't think I'll be calling for another couple of years at least.

Large, opened up town centre pub. Rather classic traditional pub in design there are areas on both sides of the bar.

Stately, comfortable pub and the beer quality was excellent.
