UPDATE - Sold for residential

Sept 2014
UPDATE - This place has had more owners in the last 36 months than the Littlest Hobo. Long-term future uncertain though it's currently open.

June 2010
This place has a job on its hands to compete/give a viable alternative to the superlative Bell up the road but to be fair the new guv'nor is doing a good job so far, following on from a good (if unspectacular) previous incumbent who won the much coveted 'Best Pub Pizza' from the local CAMRA branch a couple of years back. It's a Wadworth tied house; usually there's 6X, Henry's IPA and Bishop's Tipple to be had. Food is served and the place is clean and tidy with a decent garden area, along with a whopping black dog (who is very friendly). The new landlord is a good host and takes care of his beer. The only major downside is a long-standing gripe with the disabled loo - which is inaccessible for many of those who need it as it's either up two steps in the pub or through the kittylitter via the garden. What sort of wally sanctioned that? If you're at the Bell it's worth a short journey over here for pint, wheelchairs and bladders permitting.

Alan O'Neill left this review about The Star Inn

The Star is an excellent country pub with good beer and food, as well as friendly and welcoming staff. There is a nice garden at the back overlooking open countryside to while away a summer afternoon. I had Sunday lunch there recently with a party of 10 (2 young kids). The food, service and value were excellent, and there was a warm log fire to sit around for a post-prandial chat.

Another reviewer refers to "the superlative Bell up the road." Very chocolate-boxy and often with snooty clientele, in my view. I would order my imbibing the other way around from the other reviewer: the Star first and a look in at the Bell if you want to impress a visiting friend from the States.
