Yep, I went past yesterday and saw it all boarded up as well..
A bit of searching of the Maidenhead Advertiser revealed that it pulled its last pint on February 26th and this 400 year old coaching inn is unlikely to reopen as a pub.
I have a soft spot for this place as i used to frequent it many years ago, but stopped going because although the report says that the locals are all upset, as Quinno eluded to below, they were part of the problem in that non locals were not usually motivated to return when visiting whilst the 'English appreciation society' were up the bar.
One group I do feel genuinely sorry for are the Maidenhead Folk Club who used to meet here every week in the room out the back will be left without a home

+++UPDATE+++
For sale, boarded up contrary to local planning regs. Unlikely to re-open as a pub, which is a shame.

Been in a couple of times, still can't really find much to get excited about, although some of my other friends seem to like it. Nominal range of Brakspear ale in fair condition, interior feels a bit grubby. Some of the punters seem more suited for a tourettes clinic, especially if the football's on. There's a big skittle alley out the back, not seen it used much though. Real fire available.
