Ale availability becoming intermittent. As are customers, if my visual fly-pasts are anything to go by.

August 2013
Imposing pub, which underwent quite an overhaul for the better a couple of years back. Usually a couple of ales on the go from what looks like a fairly restrictive list (or no imagination on the pub's part?). Quality in recent months isn't as good as it was a couple of years back, when it was pretty consistent. Live music and darts feature, alongside televised sports; this is a good one for the football. Side room can be hired out for functions - I think they were hoping to have this as some sort of restaurant room appealing to the office workers but the punters didn't arrive, sadly - large roundabout and IDR flyover in the way...

Open under "new management", called in on my way to the Hopleaf for their beer fest, only two other punters in on a Saturday afternoon,Rugby World cup was on a couple of screens, two pumps on the bar,one vacant and the other with an Otter Bitter clip turned round,so settled for a swift half Fosters,as I was about to leave a couple of blokes came in and remarked about the Otter being off and were rewarded by the landlord saying yes but we have some Loddon Ferrymans Gold available straight from the barrel, my fault for not asking I supose but if you are trying to make a go of a pub surely you should advertise whats available. Not sure how this pub will turn out but I wish it well.

Modern style interior in an old building just south of the town centre. The main bar is finished in cream with a red carpet and red upholstered pew style benches with some short stools clustering round the few tables. Largely seating at one end by a nasty brick fireplace, with a middle area housing a big screen separated by a balustrade sitting on a low partion wall. Beyond that is a pool table, darts board and another screen. Plenty of drinking space around the bar for those who prefer to stand or block the bar. Four handpulls sitting at the end of the bar with Brakspears Bitter and Caledonian Golden Promise being served, the Brakspears was in fine condition when I tried it. The only other punters were some east european lads playing pool and a middle aged business type.
